AACR 2026 SCHOLAR MEET UP
It was a beautiful day in San Diego on April 18, 2026, as I sat at a bar anxiously waiting to see which Forbeck Scholars might show up for the first-ever Forbeck Scholars drop-in at AACR. It was great fun to see who came by and to catch the surprised looks on their faces when Ned Sharpless, MD, and Tony Letai, MD, PhD, joined us. Both are Forbeck Scholars themselves (2003 and 2004) and both have since gone on to lead the NCI as its 15th and 18th Directors. Thanks to Defne Bayik for pushing to make this happen–one look at the photo below, and it’s hard to imagine this being a one-time thing.

Bruce Chabner, MD, served on the Scientific Advisory Board since the beginning, only retiring in 2013. He was a great friend to the Foundation and the Forbeck family. It was great to catch up with him at AACR.
