3 Benefits of Scouting IT’S NATIONAL BOY SCOUTS DAY! Every fall, the Boy Scouts conduct their Popcorn Fundraiser outside supermarkets, hardware stores, and other areas. Then, during the spring, the Girl Scouts sell their famous cookies for the Girl Scout Cookies Fundraiser. Both Scouting organizations are part of The Boy Scouts of America, which was formed in 1910. The organization has a rich history of providing skills, knowledge, and resources to thousands of children across America. In honor of Feb. 8, National Boy Scouts Day, here are three benefits of enrolling your children to be a part of the Boy or Girl Scouts. You create lifelong memories. If you talk to anyone who was part of the Scouts, they’ll speak highly of their experiences and may even share stories that stand out to them. From receiving their first badge, participating in fundraising activities, and going on camping trips — many activities and experiences can leave lasting impressions. Best of all, you can make lifelong friends during your journey.
You learn skills to help you in the future. The foundation of the programs is all about equipping children with the life skills and resources they need to become well-rounded adults. The Scouts focus on 10 attributes: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Trust, Caring, Fairness, Perseverance, Self-Discipline, Courage, and Citizenship. These skills are taught during camping trips, volunteer opportunities, and everyday life. You have opportunities to grow. Some may think that once you age out of Scouts, your time in the Scouting program is over — but that’s not the case. You can be a Cub Scout leader and help provide other Cub Scouts with knowledge, insight, and opportunities. Whether you want to become a den leader immediately after aging out of the Scouts or if it’s been years and you want to be a part of the organization again, you can! All you have to do is take a couple of training courses and have a background check.
Were you a part of the Boy or Girl Scouts? Did you have any experiences you’d like to share? We would love to hear from you!
