Presenter: Catherine McMahon
Catherine grew up in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea where she gained an insight into how education improves life chances. Her first teaching position was teaching indigenous students in Katherine, Northern Territory.
Catherine then taught at a number of inner - city disadvantaged schools in Melbourne. She has worked in public education as a school leader and with refugee and migrant communities for many years. She has seen the different waves of migration from Somalia, to former Yugoslavia to Afghanistan, Syria and the Ukraine. Inclusion and diversity is very important to her.
Catherine was a foundation member of the leadership team at Coburg Senior High School and taught VCE English. She then led the expansion of Coburg Senior High to become Coburg High School catering for Years 7 - 12.
Catherine became Principal of Collingwood English Language School in 2018 and has overseen the creation of a new campus co - located with The Lakes South Morang College opened by the Education Minister Natlie Hutchins in July 2023.
