December 2023 Newsletter MAAGAZIN

Dear MAAG Americas Team:

As most of you get ready for the holidays and 2023 comes to an end it is a good time to reflect on the changes, challenges, and successes you have had this year. MAAG will finish the year strong, and I want to thank all of you for the hard work and contributions you have made throughout the year. Having met all of you over the past 3 months, I am very happy that I decided to take on the challenge and truly believe that we have a bright future ahead of us here in the Americas. We have great plans for the development of our business, and I will be more than happy to share details once they can be communicated. In the meantime, I hope that you can take some well-deserved rest and spend quality time with your loved ones. I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!

One Maag America – Together, as a team, we can accomplish more MAAG Trial Labs: Reduction Lab

Today, the lab only has a pulverizer – shown at the picture in this article. The lab machine is capable to test almost any polymer that is ground ambiently. Among the polymers, tested at the lab are the following: polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polycarbonate, PVC, HDMW, etc. The lab was originally thought of as a lab - show room to run customer trials and demonstrate equipment. The equipment at the display consisted of a pulverizer, a pelletizer, and a rotomodling machine. Pulverizer Lab at MAAG Reduction facility in Kent was started in 2010, when the company moved to the current building, new at that time. The new building was larger and allowed space for a trail lab. Though polyethene is still the most prevalent, the lab has tested quite a few of new types and forms of polyethylene and polypropylene, such as softer polymers, which are becoming more popular. Examples of end-products made from soft polymers could be found in a regular home among items for everyday use. Examples are a spatula, soft grip of a pen or a handle holder. In the last decade, with the fast growth of the chemical industry, there were a lot of developments in the polymer technology. This created a new need for customer to test their newly developed types of polymers including those that have never been pulverized before. Therefore, the pulverizer lab witnessed many new different types of polymers brought to a lab testing for the very first time. Reduction lab runs small capacity trials from 1 to 10 kgs butches to see if the material can be used or can be ground at all. In the past, the major polymer ran at the lab for customer trials was polyethylene.

The lab is used on weekly basis for customer trials and for in- house techs training. Sometimes, it is used for customer training if a problem cannot be resolved as soon as needed, especially internationally. The strangest material ever ground by lab pulverizer was deer antlers, the powder of which was intended to be used in medical purposes and energy drinks. The lab is run by Chuck Bell , Technical Product Manager for Pulverizers.

Safety First Document

Inclement Weather One hazard both parking lots and sidewalks share is that snow and ice exponentially increase slipping hazards, especially when snow hides a layer of ice beneath it. Walking to and from parking lots or between buildings at work during the winter requires special attention to avoid slipping and falling. Slips and falls are some of the most frequent types of injuries that occur during winter months. Having a well-established plan for how to handle snow and ice in parking lots and on sidewalks is essential.

Hobbies Paul Kay's Journey through Art

Paul Kay has worked here at Eagle Rock since 1998. He assists the maintenance team with their responsibilities here at the plant. Since childhood, Paul Kay has had a passion for drawing. He started drawing Disney and animated characters, but it wasn't until he drew posters for Bible School and Camp that he realized the joy his art brought to others. Without any formal training, Paul continued to refine his craft by drawing daily and developing his skills. His artwork has grown to include painting, which he took up recently due to the encouragement from his sister, Wanda. While Paul has never sold any of his paintings, he dreams of sharing his art with the world by reproducing these cheerful pictures and distributing it widely. Paul's inspiration for his lighthouse drawing came from his faith and childhood memories. He was reminded of Jesus as the Lighthouse during church services, and he added the river to represent the living water. He also drew on memories of summers spent on the river with his family, which motivated him to include water in his artwork. Each painting on Paul's art wall took 8-12 hours to complete, and he often watched videos to learn new techniques and improve his skills. Paul's art is a source of joy and happiness for him and for those who receive it. He enjoys creating and coloring drawings to give to kids at church camp and seeing their excitement when they share them with others. With his talent and passion for art, Paul hopes to continue sharing his creations with the world. His artwork represents the joy he feels inside and wants every painting to be representing happiness that is from his heart.

We wish everyone a happy, healthy, and joyous holiday season!
