“There are more than twenty thou sand,” he was told. “Then,” said he, “you can easily spare a thousand for China.” —The Classmate. H. “T he F ield I s the W orld " Hu King-Eng, a Chinese woman doc tor, while a student in Ohio Wesleyan University, won many girl students to Christ. The mother of one of the girls said: “Little did I think when I wa3 giving money for the work in China that a Chinese girl would come to this country and be the means of leading my daughter to Christ.” —M. E. Burton. III. M ultiplied F ruit A Moravian missionary named George Smith went to Africa. He had been there but a short time and had only one convert, a poor woman, when he was driven from the country. They found this man dead one day. He had died praying for the Dark Continent. Fail ure? And yet when they.celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of that mission, they learned that a company, accidentally stumbling upon a place where he had prayed, had found the copy of the Scriptures he had left. They also found the one aged woman who was his convert. They sought to sum up his brief life, and reckoned more than thirteen thousand living converts that •had sprung from that life which seemed a failure. —A. J. Gordon. DECEMBER 3, 1939 INTO ALL THE WORLD M ark 16:14-20 Meditation on the Lesson

Nearly two thousand years have passed since Jesus our Lord gave His disciples in Jerusalem this great com mand to go into all the svorld, and yet there are left many places where the message of salvation in Christ is wholly unknown. And what a message! The -gospel—glorious news! "How that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Cor. 15: 3, 4). “He that believeth and is bap tized shall be saved” (Mk. 16:16), for the gospel is “the power of God unto salvation” (Rom. 1:16). Tennyson once summarized the gospel thus: “Christ died for all men; that is old news and good news and new news.” “After the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them” (Mk. 16:19, 20). What a blessed thing it is for us that those disciples were obedient to that command! Through the ages their testimony has been transmitted to us. But the most marvelous thought in this passage, to me, is the expression, “the Lord working with them.” H°w powerless the disciples would have been without Him, and yet how condescend ing and gracious is the great Jehovah to work with and through His children! In Acts 3:12, 13, we read Peter’s bold answer concerning the healing of the lame man, and note that he ascribes all the glory to Him to whom it belongs— the Lord. Still today the call is ringing, “Go ye”. . .“the field is the world.” And Christ is assuring us, “Lo, I am with you alway.” Those who follow close to the Lord can hear His voice saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” May many Christian Endeavorers answer, as did Isaiah of old, “Here am I; send me.” Helps for the Leader I. S upply and D emand A Chinese Christian asked Arch deacon Moule how many clergymen there were in England. Archdeacon Moule asked how many he thought there were. "It is a little island,” the Chinese re plied; “perhaps there are a (Thousand.”
