PRESS RELEASE REVEREND LEO WOODBERRY RECEIVES PRESIDENTIAL AWARD

On November 18, 2023, First Faith Baptist Church held their annual “Yes I Can Go To College” honoree and scholarship program for high school students throughout Queens, New York. First Faith Baptist Church has been conducting the “Yes, I Can Go To College” program for the past 28 years. Thus far, the program has taken students on a tour of historically black colleges and universities in the south, provided full and partial scholarships, and help the students to enroll into the college or university of their choice. Over the past 28 years, the Honorable Dorita Clarke, Pastor Esther Wiggins, and their committee have helped over 5,000 high school students to receive full and partial scholarships and to be enrolled in colleges and universities. The Honorable Dorita Clarke serves as the Executive Director & NYS Committee Women 29 AD, and has a broad range of support from the state of New York, the city council, high schools, businesses, and many other entities. Reverend Leo Woodberry credits much of what he knows about pastoring and running a nonprofit organization to Pastor Earnest Wiggins, the father of the honorable Dorita Clarke and Pastor Esther Wiggins. Reverend Woodberry said, “If it were not for the mentorship of Pastor Ernest Wiggins, I would not be able to do the work that I do today”. Reverend Woodberry has continued to work with First Faith Baptist Church over the past 40 years. At the end of the program, which included many honorees and dignitaries, special awards were handed out. One of the awards was given to Reverend Leo Woodberry, pastor of Kingdom Living Temple Church, and New Alpha Community Development Cooperation, headquartered in Florence, South Carolina. The award is the prestigious U.S. Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.
