question about that. Also, there is more in the New Testa ment about Christ’s second coming than about His first appearance. These promises must be fulfilled, just as those relating to His first advent were fulfilled. Not only that, but the New Testament Scriptures have more to say abotit Christ’s second coming than about any other doc trine of Christian faith. If the Bible contained only a single sentence on the subject, that should be sufficient. But God has written this truth, directly or indirectly, on the pages of this Book nearly four hundred times. Be cause it is plainly stated in the Scripture, I stand here
' HIS modern theory of evolution, when it reaches the moral, religious, and social world, promises a millennium. Its advocates make it very emphatic that all we need to do is to continue this process of evolving and the result is inevitable. They even go so far, some of them, as tp declare that we are in that millennium now- All the men who teach this theory, whether they are in the pulpit, or in the professor’s chair, or wherever they are, trample the plain statements of Scripture under their feet and throw away ruthlessly the sacred promises of our Lord. Can we still believe that
before you, firmly, without a bit of hesitation, but with the deep conviction in my soul that Christ is coming back to this world soon. Boys, a n d sometimes
Jesus is soon coming back to this world of ours, not withstanding all the state ments to the contrary ? Em phatically, yes. T he P lain T eaching of S cripture First of all, we believe it because t h e Scripture plainly teaches it. I speak advisedly. It is the plain teaching of Scripture, with no in t e r r o g a t io n mark against it, that Christ is coming again soon. Even a child can understand it, and
Until He Comes !‘A little while” for patient vigil-keeping, To face the storm and wrestle with the strong; :‘A little while” to sow the seed with weeping, Then bind the sheaves and sing the harvest song. ‘A little while ” to keep the oil from failing, “A little while” faith’s flickering lamp to trim; And then the Bridegroom’s coming footsteps hailing; W e’ll haste to meet Him with the bridal hymn. -—Jane Crewdson.
older people, when they read a book, get interested in the hero. So they turn to the last,, pages to see what 'results await him. A boy reads the last page and smiles and says, “ It’s all right; now I ’ll go back an method. Turn to the last page of your Bible and find what the end will be. Last words are always important. The closing chapter of Revelation contains no less than three references to the Lord’s return. One might have been enough. But three times He says: “ Behold, I come quick ly.” If we are real Christians and if we love our Lord, we will smile and rejoice and lift our eyes heavenward, and say, “ Amen, even so come, Lord Jesus.” T he P romise of the L ord J esus C hrist We can safely believe this great truth, not only because the Bible teaches it, but because our Lord lovingly prom ises it. I like that. Last year when I went away from this city, my loved ones were at the station. Tears were on their cheeks and great sorrow was in their hearts. They said many lovely things. But I replied, “ Now just smile with me, for I will soon be back. The next time I will stay longer, and perhaps I will never go away again.” That was love’s promise. And when my train pulled into the station, months afterwards, my loved ones were there, because they knew I would keep my word. Our Lord lovingly, in the last moments of His life, said to His sorrowing dis ciples something to this effect: “ You are going out into peril, and toil, and hardship. But listen: I have gone to prepare a place for you, and I will come back and get you, and take you. with me.” That was love’s promise. I would as soon expect the sun to drop from the sky as to expect Jesus Christ to break His promise. He said He would come back. That is enough for me.. In view of all He has said, if you will believe any evolutionary theory, you have no Christianity in you. a child would not mistake it. If we read the Scripture as we read other things, we will have the understanding about it that was God’s intent. Not only plain, but very simple is this teaching. Also, the program that God has outlined is very clear. I do not think we need to mistake that either.. God has not hidden His plan for this world’s final and complete redemption. I think this is the order: 1. The coming of our Lord for His saints. 2. The great apostasy and the.manifestation of the man of sin and the son of perdition. 3. The great tribulation. 4. The glorious manifestation of the Lord JesUs Christ—His open, visible, personal manifestation. 5. The restoration and conversion of Israel. 6. The judgment of the living nations. 7. Complete destruction of the Antichrist as well as the “ little horn” of Daniel’s prophecy. 8. The binding of Satan and his being cast out into utter darkness forever. That is God’s outlined program in the Scripture, plainly taught, and every one of us can believe it without placing an interrogation mark against it. God never made a program that He was not able to complete or that He did not intend to complete. The Old Testament Scriptures have more statements in them concerning Christ’s second coming than about His first coming. Those relating to His first advent have all been literally fulfilled and in every detail. We have no ’•'Synopsis of a sermon preached in the Church of the Open Door, Los Angeles, Calif., stenographically reported; not corrected by the speaker.
