verifies it. Daniel prophesied, long centuries ago, about the nations of the world. In the image that he saw, four great world powers succeeded each other. Babylon, Greece, Medo-Persia, Rome—every one of them came and went as Daniel said they would. Following the Roman Empire there was to be another empire, represented by ten toes, made up of iron and clay. The most amazing thing in all human history is now being witnessed by your eyes and mine. The very terri tory which composed the old Roman Empire is now made up of a mixture of autocracy (there is not very much of that left) and democracy. Democracy means clay, or loose material. Possibly the old Roman Empire is now coming back, just as the Scripture prophecies said it would. Strange things have taken place within the last few years. The strongest power invested in any human being on earth is in Mussolini, and the strongest government in the world is Mussolini’s government. This man has but one dream,-§|< to make a Roman Empire passing in glory the empire of the Caesars. He is now hobnobbing with Russia and with all the small countries in that region. Something might easily and rapidly take place to transform that whole terri tory according to Scripture prophecy. Geography is doing peculiar things in these days. Another change that is taking place relates to the Jew. If you want a real, deepening conviction of your faith in the Bible, study the Jews. They are the strangest people of all time. The only reason for their remarkable history is that the supernatural has had control. The Jews are going back home now, just as rapidly as they can. They are going back to claim the land, to introduce irrigation, and to provide for education. They are going back, not con verted, but unconverted—with enthusiasm and with plenty of money. They will have a homeland, just as your Bible says they will. They have been scattered over the earth, with never a place to call their own. Your Bible repeatedly says that Jerusalem will be restored and the Holy Land shall be the Jews’ possession. Scripture and history come right together at this point. We are told that in the last days there will be wars. ‘There have never been such great conflicts as in recent years. Pestilence and famine are also predicted. Millions of people have been starving to death in China, in India, and in other places o f the world. We have always had these things, but we Have never had them all at once or in such violent form. , Moreover, your Bible says that there will be an abun dance of riches in the last days. There are now in this world more riches than you ever dreamed there would be. and they are all controlled by a few individuals. There are men in this land so wealthy that they do not know how rich they are. The Book says that in the last days men will be covetous, and God knows that we never coveted so much as we do now. The Bible talks about federations. Business is federat ing and the church is trying to federate.. Then your Bible says that in the last days there will be an abundance of travel. That is certainly true today. Everybody is talking about speed and about getting some where. Recently a man came across the continent by air plane at the rate of 250 miles an hour. In the last days the world will be covered with knowl edge. The ambition today is to have education. When we have education, then inventive genius revolution izes the world until we stand appalled. Radio, wireless, telegraph, telephone, submarine, airship, mam moth ships, magnificent railroad trains—all of these thrill

Some Day Will Be the Last B y E lizabeth P adfield “ The Lord .. shall suddenly come” (Malachi 3 :1). Some day mil be the last For the toiling and the trying, For the weeping, and the dying — In a moment all is past! Some day, such as this, In a moment the skies sunder, In a moment caught up yonder, Oh, the rapture and the wonder-^mk W e are with the Lord in bliss ! Some day will be the last For the church’s long affliction, Striving fo r earth’s benediction, Mourning for her Lord’s rejection— In a moment all is past! Some day, such a day as this, Suddenly, the Lord descending, Victory His steps attending, Suddenly the conflict ending —- Share we His triumphant bliss! Some day will be last! Keep us, Lord, from idly throwing Hours away, so quickly going; Let us use each moment, knowing Sunset shadows lengthen fast, In a moment work is «ended; No more marred, and no more mended; Past the time for work intended — Wheels and whir o f labor cease! —L ife o f Faith. Some day—and ft may be thisUffjf T he B elief of the A postles I believe that Jesus Christ is coming back soon, not only because the Bible plainly teaches it and because my Lord lovingly promises it, but because His inspired, Holy Ghost taught apostles and all His great, loyal, loving fol lowers have believed it and lived by it. That is a great reason. The Holy Spirit dictated what they should say, and every one of the apostles referred to this truth when he wrote anything; and when he spoke, he made it a part of his message. All the apostles believed it and lived by it. It was their hope and joy. I am quite satisfied to fol low the apostles. I could not follow better. The great missionaries and evangelists, and the early church fathers also, held this great doctrine. Preaching it, they went into cellars and catacombs; they died as martyrs, with smiles on their faces, and with one common word on their lips, “ Maranatha,” that is, the Lord .is coming. Throughout the centuries, the same thing has been true. Wesley, Spur geon, Whitfield, and all their noble followers lived and died with this hope like a fire in their breasts.
