From signature cuisine to memorable entertainment to eclectic boutiques, the city’s dining and shopping options offer a unique character and style that adds something special to the regional patchwork of Rochester. “Shop ‘til you drop” is apropos for Rochester’s shopping environment, thanks to the wealth of independent shops gracing the area. From the delightful Galleria at University Square to larger retailers to the gems along Third Street, Rochester’s shopping scene is sure to delight. University Square, which is conveniently connected to Mayo Clinic and Mayo Civic Center via skyway and subway is a favorite shopping destination for residents and visitors alike. Also nearby are The Grand Shops at Kahler, which offer a subway-level, skyway-level and street-level shopping experience near Mayo Clinic.
As the regional shopping center for southeast Minnesota, neighboring northern Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin, Rochester is home to a vast array of shopping opportunities. Right off of Highway 52, Apache Mall has served as a community staple since 1969. Boasting over 85 tenants, the mall is home to SPARK Children’s Museum, Orangetheory Fitness, and several other traditional retailers such as Scheels. A myriad of other popular retailers such as Fleet Farm and Walmart round out Rochester’s offerings, providing an abundance of shopping opportunities. When hunger strikes, Rochester’s restaurant scene offers a plethora of culinary favorites ranging from signature Minnesota cuisine to a broad variety of diverse local eateries. Thanks to Rochester’s close proximity to many farming communities, farm-to-table menu offerings are ample, as are restaurants that embrace using locally-sourced ingredients. No matter where you are, whether it be in Rochester or one of its numerous surrounding communities, there is always a savory meal nearby.
