My Bot is Better: The AI War No One Realizes They’re Fighting BY SIMONA GEORGESCU On a global stage, the “war of the bots” is framed as a race between nations. Whoever leads in artificial intelli- gence may very well shape the next global superpower. A quieter version of that same war is being fought every day at a much more local level, inside companies, across teams, and increasingly between individuals. And the real- ity is, most people have already entered this war without realizing it. When ChatGPT launched publicly in November of 2022, the reaction followed a familiar pattern. There was curiosity at first, but it quickly gave way to skepticism. Was this another tech bubble? Could it be trusted? Would it ac- tually change how we work, or just generate headlines? We did not spend much time debating those questions. For us, it was never a matter of if but when. So we started early, testing, training, and building around it while many were still dismissing it. At the same time, I was hearing pre- dictions that roles like mine would be obsolete within three years. Nearly four years in and the reality is much less dra- matic. We are not obsolete. If anything, we are still only scratching the surface. Adoption in B2B has been predictably slow. Every sug- gestion to use an LLM was met with the same response. It is not there yet. It cannot really do that. It is not good enough. Meanwhile, the landscape was evolving rapidly. Thousands of applications were being built, new work- flows were emerging, and entire businesses were form- ing around these tools. While many were debating, others were profiting. Part of our early adoption comes down to perspective. I grew up in a world where disruptive technology was the norm. I watched the house phone become a cell phone, dial-up become wireless, and the internet evolve from a novelty into infrastructure. The World Wide Web was only released to the public in 1993. Before that, the internet ex- isted, but it was largely limited to military and academic environments. AI has followed a similar trajectory. It did not suddenly appear in 2022. It has been integrating into our daily lives for decades. Early recommendation systems from companies like Amazon in the late 1990s introduced machine learning into everyday decision-making. Siri brought the idea of a per- sonal AI assistant into the mainstream in 2011. Platforms like TikTok refined algorithmic personalization to a level that now shapes how entire generations consume infor- mation. Large language models did not start the AI era. They made it visible. So why does it feel like everything changed overnight? Because in some ways, it did. Not in capability, but in behavior. Over the last year, adoption has hit an inflection CONTINUED ON PAGE 76
