IT’S AN EXPERIENCE. It’s not an appointment.

WELCOME, DR. NICK MOBILIA, TO PUTNAM DENTAL ASSOCIATES! A TOUCH OF NEW YORK CITY

When I first started practicing dentistry 28 years ago, I knew that I wanted to make a difference for every patient I encountered. As my career developed, I began focusing more and more on not only the restorative aspect of dentistry, but also the aesthetics of a beautiful smile. Now I am pleased to bring my touch and expertise to Putnam Dental Associates. For the past 28 years, I have been practicing in New York City. However, my wife, Ellen, and I decided we wanted a change of pace, and I began searching for offices a little closer to home. With my years of experience, I knew I didn’t want to settle for just any office. I wanted to be a part of a team where I could implement the same principles and concepts I’ve used my entire career, and I wanted to find a team that valued my expertise. During my initial interview with Putnam Dental, I knew this was the place for me. When I walked into the office, I saw an award for Putnam’s military patients, and I was immediately touched. At my old office, we constantly held special events for our military service members, and I knew that if I joined the team, my ability to work with servicemen and servicewomen would continue. The longer I work with the Putnam Dental team, the more I realize how natural the transition has been. I am able to continue using the same treatments, procedures, and techniques I’ve utilized my entire career while being involved in the community. Truly, it feels like I never left home. I am excited to bring new facets of dentistry to Putnam Dental Associates, one of which is sleep medicine. I am passionate about treating patients with sleep apnea. Personally, I used to suffer from sleep apnea, so I know what my patients are going through. However, with a device so small it can fit in my pocket, I can change the lives of children,

adults, and senior sufferers. The technology is truly incredible, and I can’t wait to share it with Putnam Dental patients. I am also an industry expert on using Botox for dentistry — both for treating TMJ disorder and for cosmetic purposes. I’m proud to be a clinical- teaching instructor for Dentox, a faculty member of Dentox, Inc., and the lead instructor for Dentox on the East Coast since 2004. I teach the clinical, hands-on portion of the following Dentox courses: “Botulinum Toxins Esthetics and Therapeutics in Dentistry” and “Peri-Oral Soft Tissue (Dermal) Fillers” for applications in dentistry. I am a well- known industry expert and national speaker, and I’ve been lucky enough to consult for some of the largest dental organizations in the world. I can’t wait to see what opportunities I encounter with the Putnam Dental team, and I can’t wait to share my expertise with you, my patients. Soon, I will be hosting seminars at the office on cosmetic and restorative dentistry and sleep apnea. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming months! When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time with Ellen and our kids. Ellen is a fantastic cook, so we often find ourselves exploring new restaurants in the city and trying out new recipes at home. We also enjoy traveling and exotic sports cars, and when there’s time, I dabble in photography.

WESTCHESTER JUNIOR DUCKS BASEBALL

Putnam Dental Associates is now a proud sponsor of Westchester Junior Ducks baseball. The league is headquartered on Long Island, and 2018 is the league’s inaugural year in Westchester (based out of Somers, New York). Putnam Dental Associates shares many core values with the Junior Ducks, which is why we are a proud sponsor of this team.

As an organization, the league believes that determination, commitment, and hard work can bridge the gap between potential and true performance. Off the field, academics, charity, character, honesty, and a strong work ethic are given the highest priority. The coaching philosophy helps to create an energetic and disciplined atmosphere that encourages respect, integrity, and personal growth. Players are taught to push teammates to be better, to pick up their teammates when they’re down, and to always believe in themselves. Character is revealed in times of adversity, and baseball provides that adversity. Stay tuned for more information. We would love for everyone to come out and support these kids!

The league sets forth the highest of standards for all coaches, players, and families, which allows the organization to base its success not only on winning but also the overall player development of each individual. The program takes great pride in fostering relationships with both players and parents while also pushing each athlete to reach their potential and goals.

OFFICE UPDATES

1 Last October, we posted a challenge on our Facebook page to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We posted a picture of Dr. Ern wearing a pink tutu. The challenge stated that if we received 500 “likes,” not only would Dr. Ern wear the tutu for a full day, but the practice would donate $200 to the American Cancer Society. Not only did we meet the goal, but we exceeded it. So, on Feb. 14, Dr. Ern wore the pink tutu the entire day. And because we surpassed the goal, we will be donating $300 to the American Cancer Society. 2 One of our front desk team members, Evelise, and her husband, Jamie, had a baby boy on April 3! Julian James weighed a whopping 9 pounds, 1 ounce and was 21 inches long. We showered Evelise with gifts this month to express our well-wishes for her and her little bundle of joy. 3 On Feb. 22, the entire team at Putnam Dental met up at Spins Bowl in Carmel to spend time together outside of the office. While very competitive, the entire team had a fantastic time. 4 Dr. Ern and Dr. Cafarelli have each been named 2018 Top Dentists USA as well as 2018 Hudson Valley Top Dentists. 5 Dr. Ern has been selected as one of “Westchester Magazine’s Healthcare Heroes” for his philanthropic work. The induction ceremony will be in May.

ORAL HEALTH MEANS OVERALL HEALTH Good oral hygiene helps prevent bad breath, tooth decay, and gum disease. It also helps you keep your teeth as you get older. Poor oral hygiene, on the other hand, can lead to oral infections, tooth decay, gum disease, and other diseases in the body. Cardiovascular Disease Research suggests that heart disease, clogged arteries, and stroke may be linked to inflammation and infections caused by oral bacteria. Fortunately, many forms of cardiovascular disease can be prevented or treated with healthy lifestyle choices, so make sure you’re taking proper care of your mouth.

The human mouth is full of mostly harmless bacteria. Normally, the body’s natural defense system and good oral hygiene, such as daily brushing and flossing, keep these bacteria under control. Once improper oral care or sickness lets these bacteria get out of control, they can wreak havoc on your health. Research has shown that oral bacteria and the inflammation associated with periodontitis may play a role in the health of your entire body.

Pregnancy and Birth Complications Periodontitis has been linked to premature birth and low birth weight. Many other conditions, such as eating disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, and head and neck cancers, may be linked to oral health. Always tell your dentist if you are on any medication or have had changes to your overall health. Remember, good oral hygiene promotes overall health. Putnam Dental Associates takes great pride in our preventative approach to your dental health, and we go to great lengths to prevent issues before they occur. Our website contains invaluable information on the “oral-systemic link.” You can also call the office any time and speak with one of our team members.

Endocarditis An infection of the inner lining of the heart, endocarditis typically occurs when bacteria or other germs from another part of the body, like your mouth, spread through your bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in your heart. If it’s not treated quickly, endocarditis can damage or destroy your heart valves and lead to life-threatening complications.
