“We have to keep in mind that the business events industry is built on the principle of collaboration and now more than ever, we have to cleverly harness its power, exhausting every potential avenue so that we can find opportunities for business together,” says Ashwin Gunasekeran, CEO of Penang Convention and ExhibitionBureau. Penang is home to the largest meetings venue outside Kuala Lumpur. The Subterranean Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre (SPICE) caters for up to 10,000 delegates and is the first hybrid solar-powered convention centre in the world. The Straits Quay Convention Centre, the Sunway Carnival Convention Centre and Seberang Prai Arena are also on offer for large events. The 25,083 sqmWaterfront Exhibition and Convention Centre will add to Penang’s venue roster once complete. In the heart of Penang’s George Town, in the north east of the island, planners will find the hidden gem that is Cheong Fatt Tze, or The Blue Mansion, to you and me. The indigo-blue house was once home to a wealthy businessman but is now a luxury hotel with a penchant for delivering sensational events.
