Of course, no summer in Rochester would also be complete without a visit to the Olmsted County Fair. Fairgoers can enjoy livestock exhibits, fantastic food and entertainment. For those looking to learn more about animals native to Minnesota, Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo, located about 4.5 miles west of Rochester and north of the city of Byron, features 30 species of animals, including bison, eagles, black bear, otter, and more, as well as over 63 acres of land for hiking, picnicking, and camping. During the winter months, ski outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the vast ski trails at Chester Woods Park and Oxbow Park. Chester Woods Park is home to 12 miles of groomed ski trails featuring both classic and free- style skiing for moderately experienced skiers. Oxbow Park features two miles of groomed trails and also has rental skis and snowshoes available for rent.
