“I proudly retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in January 2017 after 23 years of dedicated service. Throughout my career, I was fortunate to serve my country in various roles. My journey began at Terminal Island, where I participated in joint operations in Seoul. From there, I was stationed in Honolulu, aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Rush. This gave me the unique opportunity to travel to Alaska, Guam, Panama, and Western Samoa, and even an unforgettable swim in the Mariana Trench. During our operations in Panama, I served as the translator for the Cutter, ensuring clear communication during critical missions. Later in my career, while stationed with the Pacific Strike Team, I was deployed to support the response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. I contributed to recovery efforts in the Gulf of Mexico, working alongside others to mitigate the impact of one of the largest environmental disasters in U.S. history. Looking back, I am grateful for the experiences and camaraderie I found in the Coast Guard. It was an honor to protect and serve, and I will always cherish my time in uniform.”

“After graduating from college, I joined the U.S. Navy in 1996 where I proudly served until 2001.

I was assigned to the Aircrewmen “A” School and aircraft mechanic “A” School and was stationed at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island, WA. For six months, I had the opportunity to serve aboard the U.S.S. John C. Stennis as an aircraft mechanic and troubleshooter for EA-6B Prowler aircraft. In addition, I served in the Kosovo conflict that took place from 1998 to 1999 between the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY). I was awarded the U.S. Navy’s Air Warfare (AW) Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS) insignia, which is a military badge that recognizes Navy members who have the skills and experience to serve in aviation activities.

I am a proud veteran, and I will serve this great country again.”

“I served in the U.S. Navy from 1993-1999 where I was in the Presidential Honor Guard (Drill Team) in Washington D.C, and then a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Hospital Corpsman working with U.S. Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC and Quantico, VA. I had amazing times back then, and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to serve and allow it to shape me into the person I am today.”

“I served as a Field Medic in the Army National Guard from 1976 to 1980 at the 108th Combat Support Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia. We trained for two weeks during the summer at various army bases and the respective army hospitals including, Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. As a combat support hospital, we were fully staffed with experienced doctors, nurses, and medics. We trained very seriously during those two weeks by acting out war scenarios and treating the wounded flown in by helicopter in our inflated field hospital. It was both challenging and rewarding!

I am very proud to have served and grateful for the life experience!”

After graduating from Annapolis with the Class of 1990, I was commissioned as a Naval Officer and assigned to the U.S.S. Boone out of Mayport, Florida. During my three years on board Boone, I deployed twice to the North Red Sea to conduct boarding operations in support of the U.N. sanctions against Iraq in the aftermath of Operation Desert Storm. After completing my service in 1994, I moved to Dallas where I now live with my wife and three sons.” -BODIE SPANGLER
