gize th e studen t sm ilingly said, as he hung on to the in ju red member: “Well, th ank th e Lord, th e day is coming when we won’t have any more sore toes.” The strang er was dum founded by the sp irit in which the m a tte r had been taken. Looking the studen t squarely in th e eye he said: “Say, are you a C h ristian?” - “Sure I am ,” was the reply. And then th e stran g e r' said, “Come over here, I w ant to talk to you. I have been looking for some Christian to ta lk ; to.” Drawing aside from the crowd, the two were presently in earnest conver sation and in a few m inutes the man accepted Christ and w ent away rejoic ing. The next Siinday, the man by ap pointm ent m et th e studen t in a Bible class, and the evidence of his genuine conversion was clear. It pays to be awake to our oppor tunities. The trouble w ith most of us is— we are asleep. A personal worker who won an average o f one soul a day for nearly forty years, has said, “You are sleeping while souls are being lost, sleeping while men are being damned, while hell is being peopled, while Christ is being dishonored, while the devil is grinning a t your sleepy face, while demons are dancing round your slum bering carcass and telling it in hell th a t a Christian is asleep.” DIALS WITHOUT SUN Exam ining the sun dial to ascertain if the clocks were right, Gotthold said to himself, “ Dials are no doubt most ingenious contrivances; but, however in genious, they are of no use when th e sun does not shine. It is the same w ith us. D estitute of the grace of God, and of the quickening and enlightening in fluence of th e Holy Spirit, we, too, whatever be our n atu ra l gifts and tal ents, are good for nothing.”
lief funds have to a large extent fallen into the hands of Catholic organizations and have been distributed in the fashion for which Romanism is noted. Speaking of the sore needs in her district, and the scanty funds th a t have been available from the relief sums sent from America, the missionary says: “The sad p art is the Catholics are getting practically all th e funds. $50,000 was voted for our dis tric t- and $10,000 was handed over to the Catholics several weeks ago, before any thing was given out to P rotestants and we are now informed th a t they will get most of the balance. A representative of the relief committee tells us th a t the Catholics have the organization. We have ju st learned' th a t twenty-seven Catholic m issionaries have appeared on the ground and are taking in lots of children as the resu lt of the money granted them.” This is the old game of Romanism, and will net them thousands of children th at they may bring up in the Catholic teach ing. Let P rotestants, in sending money for famine relief, send it direct through P ro testan t missionary boards, or the F aith Missions—then they will know th at th e money will not be used for Catholic propaganda. POINT OF CONTACT Recently a stud en t of th e Bible In s titu te who has made a record of win ning a t least one soul every week, came up to F rid ay w ith no success. He was exceedingly burdened in prayer and walked down the stree t praying th a t some opening m ight be made. As he was standing a t a stree t crossing, a ro bu st fellow dashed from the crowd and planted his Number 10 shoe squarely on th e stu d e n t’s pet corn.
