578 need of a Saviour who came, as He Him self says, to “seek and to save th e lost.” If salvation could be found in any or all of these things, then it would have been unnecessary for Jesus Christ to have poured out His life blood on the cross. Every believer has the rig h t to ask the church: “Where is your au tho rity , or where is the proof of the value, in the salvation of souls, in th e thousand and one things th a t are 'b e in g done in these days, in which th ere is no definite testi mony to th e soul’s g reat need of the death, _ resurrection, intercession, and coming again of Jesus C h rist?” Every honest teacher of a Sunday School class should ta k e th is opportun ity, and every o ther possible opportun ity, to stress th is theme. Every man and woman who confesses Christ as Saviour is empowered and commissioned by A lm ighty God to preach and teach and live out th is Gospel of th e Son of God. The power to give th is testim ony to th e tru th of th e Gospel lies in th e Holy Spirit who our Lord prom ised should be given to His disciples “Not many days hence,” which prom ise was fulfilled on th e day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit who comes to dwell in every believer as soon as he has received Jesus Christ as h is Saviour, is th e w itness to the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ and testifies to us by His indwell ing th a t the blood-offering has been ac cepted by the F ath er. This same Holy Spirit seals us unto the day of our re demption, and as far and as fast as we yield to Him, empowers us as His w it nesses and m issionaries and ambassa dors to tell th e tru th , the whole tru th and nothing b u t th e tru th concerning God’s g reat sp iritu al plans concerning a lost world as revealed in th e in erran t, God-breathed Scriptures of th e Old and New Testaments. (2) THE PROPHESIED MILLENNIAL REIGN OF CHRIST, Isa. 11:1-10. These ten verses were evidently se lected by th e Lesson Committee as a description of th e condition of the world due to th e preaching of th e Gospel mes sage, bu t a study of th e context shows plainly th a t it is a description of the condition of th e earth during the mil lennial reign of Christ. Three things suggest themselves in a brief exposition of these verses which contain so many marvellous revelations concerning Christ, His ch aracter and His m illennial reign. Of course, the subject of Christ’s m illennial reign is too large to teach in one Sunday School lesson,- bu t we can call atten tion to a few out standing things, and suggest them to the scholars for meditation: 1. The Characteristics of th e King, vs. 1, 2. 2. The Character of His Reign, vs. 3-5. 3. - The Condition of the E arth , vs. 6 - 10 . The prophet tells us th a t the “rod” (signifying the ru ler) was to come out of .the stem of Jesse.- Of course, David was a son of Jesse. The line of the kings was cu t off, and th e prophecy is fulfilled in th e budding ou t from the broken stem of th is lineal descendant, according to th e flesh,— Jesus, the Son of Mary. The “ Spirit of th e Lord” was to rest upon Him. This was fulfilled in Luke 3:22 when th e" Holy Spirit of God descended upon Him and anointed Him
