prophet, our High P riest en tered the most holy, to perform th e last division of His solemn work,— to cleanse the sanctuary.” AU this sounds like a foreign language to one accustomed to sound -doctrine— and it is. Mrs. W hite got it from h e r . escort in her land of visions. Strange, isn’t it, th a t a whole body of religionists should decry Spiritism as of the devil, and yet accept a whole system of Biblical in terp retation re ceived by one in a state of non-self con trol? In referring to Mrs. W hite’s visions, Elder Loughborough in his histo ry of S. D. Adventism, has th is to say in de fense of her visions being of superhum an origin: “ Such m anifestations convinced the candid that some power more th a n hu man was controlling th e humble in stru ment.” No one gainsays th a t; b u t from whence was th e controlling power? th a t is the important question. The way to find out is to te st the words of Mrs. White’s control by th e Word of God. The words I have ju s t quoted, re the atonement w rough t out on Calvary for the repentant sinner, (Mrs. W hite says: repentant “ believers” ) are not accord ing to the dlear teaching of the Word of God. Away w ith it then. Uncloak this angel of darkness posing as an angel of light. Strike th is system a t its source, and the whole thing will fall “ like a pack of cards.” Emphasis should also, be laid upon their wresting of th e Scriptures concern ing the Second Coming. So many people think that only Seventh Dayists are look ing for the soon re tu rn of th e Lord Jesus.
SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISM
Mr. K eith L. Brooks, 536 South Hope Street, Los Angeles, California. B rother in C h rist:—
It is my opinion th a t th e Seventh Day Adventists would like to scalp your cor respondent whom you quoted in th e "Sep tember “K ing’s Business.” I note th a t you emphasized “They are unsound on the atonem ent.” This indeed is fundamental. Your reference in your “T ru th and E rro r C h art” to Satan eventually having to shoulder th e sins of th e world (according to Seventh Day Adventism) is good, b u t I wish it were possible to draw atten tion .to th a t which seems to me a more disastrous side of th e ir view of th e A tonement which was w rought ou t on Calvary “ once for all,” and “ finished” then and there, g I have before, me the S. D. A. “ Sab bath SchooJ. Lesson Q uarterly” for the first qu arter in 1918. “Lesson 6— The Cleansing of the S anctuary,” anent which cleansing is quoted Mrs. W hite in explaining Hebrews 9:22. Note 2. “F o r eighteen centuries th is work (th e cleansing of the Sanctuary) of m inistration continued in th e first apartm en t of the sanctuary. The blood of Christ, pleaded in behalf of p en iten t believers* secured th e ir pardon and ac ceptance w ith th e F ath e r, yet th e ir sins still rem ained upon th e books of record. As in th e typical service th e re was a work of atonem ent a t th e close of th e year; so before Christ’s w o rk fo r th e redem ption of men is completed, th e re is a work of atonem ent for th e removal of sin from th e sanctuary. This is th e service which began when the two thou sand th ree hund red days ended (1844 ). At th a t time, as foretold by Daniel th e
