This year’s Warden’s Banquet for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) featured several spe- cial honours. The Saturday evening event at the Alfred Community Hall honoured Yves Laviolette, mayor of Alfred-Plantagenet Township, who also served for the past year as the warden of the UCPR. This year was the second time that Laviolette has served as the UCPR warden. His previous term was in 1988 when he served as the reeve for Alfred Township. That municipality was later amalgamated by the province into Alfred-Plantagenet Township in 1997. More than 200 guests attended UIF/PWFNCFSTPJSÊFIPTUFECZUIF Hawkesbury and District General Hos- pital, to honour Laviolette and also to observe the official 175th anniversary of the UCPR, which officials noted is “a significant milestone for the entire regional community.” “It is deeply moving to see so many local people come together to celebrate our community’s successes,” stated Laviolette. “I have often said that a community is only as strong as the bonds that unite it. MISE À JOUR SUR LA DÉMOLITION DU QUAI DE WENDOVER
presentation of the 2025 J.P. St-Pierre Award, recognizing a resident of Prescott and Russell who had had a positive impact on the community. This year’s recipient is Mireille Dauth, who has been a dedicated volunteer for more that 25 years with the Friends of the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital. Le quai principal du site de mise à l’eau de Wendover est toujours fermé en attendant les plans de démolition. Le quai relève de la compétence fédérale et l’intention est de démolir la structure vieillissante et de construire un nouveau quai qui réponde aux normes actuelles pour les petits quais et les quais d’amarrage. Le plan initial était de démolir le quai ce mois-ci, mais les autorités fédérales ont informé le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet d’un retard dans le calendrier de démolition. Pour l’instant, les plaisanciers qui se rendent sur la rivière des Outaouais depuis Wendover pour chasser le canard ou pratiquer d’autres activités pendant la période d’ouverture de la rivière peuvent toujours utiliser la rampe de mise à l’eau accessible en voiture.
