The methods for mitigating the consequences of explosions Suppression
Explosion suppression systems are designed to detect an explosion at its earliest stage (ignition) and to activate (detection) and to quench the explosion (control) before sufficient pressure is generated to cause serious damage. This is achieved by the rapid injection of a suitable suppressing medium into the flame front. The suppressant is often a dry powder like those used in fire extinguishers. In certain circumstances water may be used.
