Most modern residential buildings with this type of roof use a method known as "fire blocking" where required in construction. This method is when fire-resisting foam blocks are inserted to prevent fire from spreading through cavities up into the roof. The roofs are also compartmented, and precautions are taken to stop fire spread from the roof void of one property to another. There are direct similarities between the internal compartmental methods and reducing the potential for fire spread through external walls, the cavities between walls can be filled with non-combustible, fire-retardant material. This takes on a greater level of significance when properties are joined via a party wall.
