INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION PRIZE JAÉN Jaén, Spain
WFIMC Member since 2004
The International Piano Competition “Premio Jaén” is the most important event, due to its prestige and long history, in the cultural panorama of the province of Jaén. Every spring, the Nuevo Teatro Infanta Leonor hosts the celebration of this competition organized by the Provincial Council of Jaén, one of the oldest in Spain in its musical modality, which has been won over its 65 editions by pianists from 20 different countries, a characteristic that certifies its international impact. The prestige of this piano competition, backed by its history and by awards such as the Medal of Honour of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Granada or the “Manuel de Falla” Prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture of the Regional Government of Andalusia, is also reflected in its significant prize money. There are eight awards that the pianists participating in this competition can win - first, second and third prize, the “Chamber Music” Prize, the “Romantic Music” Prize for the best performer of romantic music, the “Rosa Sabater” Prize for the best performer of Spanish music, the “Contemporary Music” Prize and the Audience Prize - which in this edition total EUR 70.000.
