and regions, showcasing significant improvement in its international competitiveness, influence, and engagement. The IPEA International Percussion Competition, which joined the WFIMC in 2022, has established itself as an esteemed international event, celebrating the power of percussion. The annual Rivers Awards Composition Competition, now in its 13th edition, received 95 original entries from 11 countries and regions this year, earning widespread acclaim from talented composers in China and beyond. We also host two vibrant festivals: the Shanghai Contemporary Music Festival and the SHCM International Musical Theatre Festival, both of which achieved significant success and recognition on a global scale.

How many international students do you have at SHCM, and where do they come from?

In recent years, we have launched a project under the “SHCM International Education” brand, providing international students with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs, as well as non-degree options such as advanced study programs and short- term training courses. In 2024, our Conservatory welcomed 135 international students, including 35 Bachelor’s students, 44 Master’s students, and 13 Doctoral students. They came from all over the world, mainly from Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
