MICHELE PITTALUGA INTERNATIONAL GUITAR COMPETITIONS Alessandria, Italy
WFIMC Member since 1981
Few competitions can claim to have done so much for their individual instrument than the Michele Pittaluga International Classical Guitar Competition. Not only has the Pittaluga welcomed less than 1,500 guitarists from over 90 countries to Alessandria over the years, but – through its composition competition and commissions – it has also added enormously to the repertoire of classical guitar. The competition was set up in 1968, created by Michele Pittaluga with the support of Andres Segovia, first Honorary President. From the very beginning the competition had an international flavour. Juries comprising the great and the good of the music world have included more than hundred of world-renowned guitar experts. Later on, a composition for guitar section and a competition for young talents was added. The total cash prize amount of the Pittaluga exceeds € 30,000. 2025 will see the 57th Intl. Guitar Competition, and the 7th Intl. Pittaluga Junior Competition.
