nations as nations are not perfect and will not prevail in righteousness until Christ comes. Does this fact make it wrong for our fathers and ourselves to have worked for a basis for peace with Canada during these hundred and more years? To ask the question is to answer it; but notice this carries us into the international realm and our sanctified Christian common sense makes it impossible for us to say that it was a sin for the best Christians in these two nations to do their utmost to make possible and maintain peace in their relationships, but if this was right when applied to the United States and Canada why should it be wrong when applied to all the rest of the nations? Jesus is fundamen tally right when He says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God," and I am afraid of any interpretation of the Bible or theology that leads a man to contradict Jesus Christ in this or any of His teachings. Men may be wrong in their Judgment as to the best ways to secure peace, but this should not lead us to the general conclusion that it is wrong to work for peace. "The king dom of God is righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." This order is not a mistake or an accident, but a fundamental order. The measure in which peace and joy are experienced is always determined by the measure in which men and nations are right. Righteousness comes first and is based on a recognition of God as God. The anthem of the angels recognized this fact: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace." The man who works for peace must work for the recognition of God and His rule. It 1 b only those who recognize God who are effectively working for peace. To be in rebellion against Him is to be against peace. He who is not for Him is against Him; he who gathers not with him scattereth abroad, and scattering meanB conflict and discord. In other words it means war. How can anyone be a true Christian and not work for peace? "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men in whom He is well pleased." That is the anthem of peace and the rhythm of the divine life, and any interpretation of God and His will that contradicts it we have a right to question. JU*. ifcr m A CHILD'S EVANGELISM How many parents will be in Heaven because their chil dren have led them there? Over and over again this has occurred, and one of the latest instances comes from Japan, reported in a letter from Miss Sadie Lea Weidner, of an Independent mission in Ogakl. Miss Wiedner is now in America, and one of her workers, writing her of the pro gress of the mission, tells this incident: "The other day a mother came to say her little boy had died suddenly, after twenty-four hours’ illness, but she wanted to know what was meant by, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the Gospel.’ This was a verse the little boy had learned. During the last few weeks of his life he was always repeating it, and during his brief illness he was pleading with his parents, ’Oh, make haste, father and mother; repent and believe the Gospel.’ With these words on his lips he passed into the presence of the Saviour. Another father and mother have become inquir ers through the change in the life of one of their boys who attends Sunday School.” What a challenge this is to all of us, to give the Gospel to little children! Their hearts are very near to the kingdom of God, and they are so ready to trust His Son as their Saviour if only they are shown the way. No one knows how many others a saved child may lead to salvation. Their evangelism is true, whole-hearted, unaffected, and carries with it an almost irresistible appeal. — S. S. Times.
