Hawai‘i’s Coral Reefs: Bounty, Threats, Solutions Tuesday, Feb. 11 You’re invited to learn the two key solutions for increasing the natural resilience of our precious reefs from world-renowned expert on coral reefs Dr. Mark Hixon, Hsiao Endowed Professor of Marine Biology School of Life Sciences, University of Hawai‘i.
Dr. Dixon’s passion is the conservation of sea life, focusing on enhancing the natural resilience of Hawai‘i’s coral reefs both above and below the sea surface. Undersea, he is leading a large project to build permanent coral nurseries off iconic Waikīkī Beach, the site of the most degraded reefs in Hawai‘i. On land, he is leading a public education campaign Fish Pono—Save Our Reefs to save the fishes that keep reef surfaces clean so corals can thrive.
