OCC Golf Wins the 2024 Aikane Cup! The inside scoop on what happened on the course. By OCC Golf Committee
their final hole. Match #2 was much easier for the team of OCC’s best women golfers S.E. Lee and Jaye Gray who quickly overpowered their Pacific Club opponents on their way to an easy 6 & 5 win. In singles matches, OCC went undefeated earning 3.5 points and sealing the team’s victory with Eric Tema, T.C. Gray and Uli Frowein all winning close matches. Hargon Holland also halved his match to contribute half a point. Roger Lyon and Mark Kranz continued the undefeated sweep by halving their 4-ball match. In Match #8, Drea Kia and John Wacker fought hard but were edged out by the Pacific Club team. Thankfully, by then, the match was already in the books. ➳ The Outrigger Canoe Club Golf Club returned to the winner’s circle in the 2024 Aikane Cup, defeating The Pacific Club at Waikele Country Club. After many years of frustration at the hands of our Pacif- ic Club rivals, the OCC team finally celebrated the sweet taste of victo- ry once again. Led by player/captain Scott Meichtry and vice-captain S.E. Lee, the OCC squad of 12 players led wire to wire against a stunned Pacific Club on their way to an easy 6-2 win. The annual Aikane Cup Tournament has been held for decades between the two rival clubs, with a friendly, but spirited, level of com- petition emerging each year for the one-day event. Ryder Cup match- play formatting is used with eight separate match-play (each worth one point, halves for ties) comprised of two-person teams and solo performances in alternate shot, 4-ball and singles games. That morning, OCC drew first blood and set the tone with Cap- tain Meichtry and CJ Day pulling off a narrow Match #1 victory on
