The authors quoted include those of every range of thought, Christian and non-Christian, and the volume pro vides a popular source-book for read}' reference. 280 pages; cloth; Oxford University Press, New York; $3.50. Comm enting and Comm en taries By Charles Haddon Spurgeon Only those who have tried to buy this book in the second hand book shops will fully appreciate its reprint ing. It consists of the great London preacher’s comments on-commentaries for the benefit of his students in what is now Spurgeon’s College, Lon don. Since the author died in 1892 the books included will necessarily be limited to those published over 60 years ago. Two valuable chapters en titled “ A Chat about Commentaries” and “ On Commenting” precede the listing of commentaries on the whole Bible, individual books of the Old and New Testaments, and various editions of the Bible. Cogent remarks on each book make up the bulk of the work; they are analytical, in structive, helpful—-and often so frank as to be amusing^- take this one: “ Common-place remarks; intended to be used at family worship. Likely to send the servants to sleep.” 220 pages; cloth; Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids, Mich.; $2.00.
