King's Business - 1955-03

for the Bible says, “ All have sinned.” This one reminds me of one of the kings of Israel, named Rehoboam, mentioned in Second Chronicles, the 6th chapter. When he became king of Israel, he inquired of the old men in his kingdom as to what he should do. He also inquired of the young men, but the advice was not the same. The old men advised him to be kind to the people, saying, “ If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.” The young men advised

It reads, “ Four cups of sugar, two cups of water, and four tablespoons- ful of vinegar. Heat to 265-270 de grees, or to the crack stage in cold water. Pour on buttered plates, put a few drops of vanilla on the candy, and pull when cool enough.” That sounds good, doesn’t it? Would you like to have some? Do you think it is necessary to follow the recipe ex actly? We might be able to leave out the sugar or the vinegar. “ No, it would not be good if you did,” you say. You are right. If you want to make good candy, you must follow the reci pe exactly. The Bible is God’s recipe book for many things. In 2 Chronicles 15:3, 4 we read, “Now for a long season Israel hath been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. But when they in their trouble did turn unto the Lord God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.” People always get into trouble when they turn away from the Lord and His Word, but it is wonderful to know that when they turn from their sins and turn to the Lord, He always helps them.

that he be very unkind to his people, and he foolishly took their advice. He said, “ For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chas tised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions” (2 Chron. 10:7,11). As I open this triangle, you can see that it gets darker, reminding us of the way in which Rehoboam’s life became more sinful. Finally it was said of him, “ And he did evil; be cause he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord” (2 Chron. 12:14). Lives today often end this way be cause people do not obey the word of the Lord and grow more sinful until the end of life. This other triangle is different, and reminds us of a Christian—one who has accepted Christ as a personal Sav iour. The larger it gets, the less dark spots we see, suggesting the older a Christian gets, the less sin there should be in his life. In Ephesians 4:15 we read, “ Speaking the truth in love, [we] may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” April 24, 1955 A L o o k a t a B o o k OBJECT: A cookbook. LESSON: Do you boys and girls like taffy candy? I brought a cookbook along this morning to tell us how taffy is made. We will not have time to make it, but we can learn how it should be made. Here is the recipe.

The Bible is' God’s recipe book for salvation. Many people do not receive salvation, because they do not follow God’s recipe. Christ tells us that He came to call sinners to repentance. He said, “ Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). This is the first thing people need to do to receive salvation. The next is ' to believe on Christ as the One who died for our sins. The ‘Philippian jail or was told, “ Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). The third thing to be done is to receive Him. “ As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God” (John 1 : 12 ). Let us again notice the things which are mentioned in God’s recipe for salvation—repent, believe, receive, confess. If we want God to give us salvation from sin, we must follow His instructions.
