Welcome to the Ludvigson Stock Farms First Annual All American Bull Sale

We are excited to welcome you to our First Annual All American Bull Sale — hosted at the Leachman $Profit Center in Meriden, Wyoming. This location represents an exciting step forward for our program. The Leachman facility is one of the most advanced performance testing and feed efficiency centers in the country, allowing us to test our bulls in a state-of-the-art environment. The central location in Meriden also provides excellent access for our cus- tomers across the United States, with improved transportation and delivery options. Most importantly, it allows us to continue offering the same full-ser- vice guarantee while leveraging one of the most proven and data-driven systems in the industry. This year’s sale offering is one of the best sets of Red Angus and Red SimAngus bulls we have ever produced. The group is especially strong in structure, with outstanding feet, legs, and soundness. From top to bottom, the bulls are uniform, balanced, and built for long-term performance. In addition we have many outcross pedigree bulls that offer fresh and cutting edge genetics. We believe the beef industry is entering one of the most dynamic and competitive eras in history. As national cow numbers rebuild, feedlots and packers are becoming increasingly selective in the genetics they source. Cow-calf producers who raise high-quality, highly efficient feeder cattle will be the ones who see their calves sought after — and even fought over — in the marketplace. Genetics and sound herd health programs will be essential to capturing these premiums. With all-time highs in the beef market and strong fundamentals pointing to sustained profitability for years to come, there has never been a better time to focus on superior genetics. Over the years, we have developed and refined a multi-trait selection model that optimizes calving ease, growth, maternal, and carcass performance. Our goal is to help our customers increase overall profitability through balanced, efficient, and proven genetics. We continue to contribute performance data to Lee Leachman’s patented $Profitability model and database, one of the most sophisticated systems in the industry. We also encourage you to visit with us about marketing your calves for next year. Our commercial marketing arm, Orion Beef Group, operates a state-of- the-art marketing platform at www.orionbeefgroup.com, providing opportunities to connect superior genetics with high-value buyers. We are actively purchasing replacement heifers and plan to continue doing so.

If we can help you with travel or accommodations, please contact us. Sale headquarters this year will be at the Little America Resort and Hotel in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As always, we appreciate your continued support and friendship, and we look forward to seeing you at the sale.

Sincerely, Ryan Ludvigson

Building Red Angus Influenced Genetics that are the most $Profitable in the Breed and Beef Industry Today!

Reputation Red Angus and Hybreds

Our Program Ludvigson Stock Farms is a family operation established in 1954. Our roots are based in the commercial cow calf and cattle feeding sectors. We understand what is needed to be successful in these areas and it has shaped our breeding philosophies in the genetics that we produce. Our Ranches

Our Team The LSF team includes not only our family but our managers, cooperators and customers. It takes a team to remain competitive in the industry today and we value the input from all of our team mem- bers. Our Key Members: • Ryan Ludvigson – is our main marketing representative and oversees the cowherd and development operations in Montana.

The Elite Nucleus herd runs on our "home" ranch which is also our ad- vanced genetics center located in Iowa where our parents began farming over 70 years ago. This ranch has served as our donor and embryo trans- fer facility since 1980.

• Justin Beeson – is our donor herd manager, managing our embryo collection and transfer program as well as our embryo export program.

•Cody Matheson - is our main bull and heifer development manager - over- sees all the bulls, replacement females and commercial bred heifers.

Our Genetics We have established a breeding philosophy that incorpo- rates optimizing multiple traits without over emphasizing any single trait. Our foundation herdsires Expectation, Packer, Big Sky, Night Calver and Saga are perfect examples that balance all traits and produce least cost cattle with ex- ceptional phenotypes. Our next generation of herd sires such as Commander, Iden- tity, Prime Plus, Call of Duty and Exactly continue this tradi- tion and headline the bulls that we will be selling in this event.

• Jordan Aller - is our data manager and cooperator coordinator for our per- formance program.

Our Customers Our customers play an integral and ongoing part in our breeding program. It would be impossible for us to remain competitive without constant input by our customers. Our customer's environments range from the High Desert to the High Plains and from the Midwest to the Rio Grande. Adapt- ability of our genetics has been the key to why our customers come back year after year. $Profitability

Our Bull and Heifer Development We develop our bulls and females at various development cen- ters throughout the United States. All the bulls are fed a high roughage ration designed to produce a 3.0 lb ADG

Again this year, every bull will have a $Profit Index. This index ranks cattle on their ability to return “profit” to the beef industry. We believe that this index will simplify the selection process for our customers and move their opera- tions in the right direction faster in this competitive market. Please contact us to visit about this ground breaking index as well as to receive materials that explain the process in more detail.

with 0.2 of an inch back fat. The replace- ment females are fed a carrying ration and we have maintained over an 80% first service AI conception rate on our females. The cattle are developed to adapt to any environment and thrive.

LUDVIGSON STOCK FARMS

Ludvigson Stock Farms was founded by Lars and Joan Ludvigson in the early 1950’s in Cushing, Iowa. Origi- nally the operation was formed as a conventional farming business which included row crops of corn and soybeans, hay, a farrow to finish swine operation and a cattle feeding enterprise. The cattle feeding enter- prise garnered attention by topping the Chicago International Market during the height of its run in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

in the operation, the bulls would be performance tested in large Red Angus genetic pools. LSF contributed bulls to the Leachman Cattle Company pro- gram from 1996 to 2002 with an amazing run of all LSF bulls selling for an average of over $4,700. In the second year with Leachman’s, LSF produced the lot 1 and lot 2 bulls in the world’s largest bull sale. Lot 1, Leachman Pol Position 1358F sold for $20,000 and Lot 2, Leachman Meat & Cheese 1367F both bulls were out of a mother/daughter combo LSF Della D109 and LSF Crystal C09. These two females would be the foundation for our herd and their influence today is still found in the most productive females in our herd. In addition, to these top selling bulls, LSF would go on to produce the high selling bull in 1998, LCC Bullseye 1379G at $67,000 along with what Jim Leachman would say was one of the best flushes of embryo bulls he had ever seen. The flush brothers of LCHMN Sir Lancelot 1357G ($20,000), LCHMN Cowboy Up 1359G ($13,000), LCHMN Robbin the Rich 1389G ($12,000) and LCHMN Shiny Hood 1360G ($10,000) who would go on to be named the National Champion Red Angus bull in 1998. Also that year LSF sold the $35,000 Leachman End Cut 1383G. One of the best sets of Red Angus herd bulls ever assembled that year. The other herd bulls selling over the years at Leachman’s included LCC Sharpshooter 1369H ($42,000), LCHMN Enterprise 1370H ($12,000), LCHMN Vaquero 1412J ($19,000), LCC Market Place 1270K ($13,000) and LCC The General A501L ($30,000). Leachman Cattle Company had a great effect on LSF through the education of the Red Angus breed and the approach that the company took to evaluat- ing sires and to develop breeding programs. Ryan was the head of market- ing for Leachman Cattle Company from 1997 to 2000. The Ludvigson and Leachman families continue to have a close relationship to this day and still exchange thoughts as well as collaborate on breeding evaluations and strategies. It is an understatement to say that the LCC years had a profound effect on the development and success of LSF. THE MIDWEST YEARS LSF began its ignaugural Focus on Females Sale in September 2000 held at the main headquarters in Cushing, Iowa. This elite female offering was the largest Red Angus female sale in the country at that time. This event would be carried on every fall until 2008 when LSF began its expansion in the west. All females have been retained since then to fuel the large expansion that LSF has went through during the last years. LSF made another significant decision in the fall of 2002 to begin testing and marketing bulls with Neo-Sho Farms in Southwest City, Missouri. The move was made to enhance the strong customer base that LSF was develop- ing in the Midwest and to bolster Neo-Sho’s current customer base. LSF topped the event in 2003 with the sale of LSF Combination A301M for $46,000 to ABS, Bieber, Paul, Sonstegaard and Jinglebob. The next year LSF once again topped the event with the sale of LSF Canyon Classic 3037N for $20,000 to Wood Red Angus in Oklahoma.

Founders Lars and Joan Ludvigson

A commercial Angus cowherd was added to LSF in the 1970’s. Lars and son, Park, spent several summers in Montana in the early 1980’s selecting club calves and they recognized the increased productivity of crossbreeding Angus cows with continental bulls. LSF implemented a crossbreeding system and began to produce club calves which were sold in annual sale during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Lars and Park were very impressed with the growth of their Simmental calves and began to gravitate to breeding up their Simmental F1’s. LSF moved into the seed stock business in the early 1980’s producing Regis- tered Simmental bulls and females. LSF hosted annual female and bull sales throughout the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. During this time Lars and Joan were active leaders in the local, state and national Simmental and Cattle- men’s organizations serving as directors and committee members. LSF was a well known prefix in the Simmental breed during this time and can be found in the pedigrees of many bulls in AI studs during that time. RED ANGUS BEGINNING Lars and Park took a trip in the summer of 1992 that would shape the future of Ludvigson Stock Farms forever. Park had become interested in Red Angus cattle in the year prior through discussions with friends in the cattle feeding industry. Park researched the breed thoroughly and selected several breed- ers to visit to evaluate the qualities of the Red Angus breed. The trip proved to be exciting for both Lars and Park and in the fall of 1992, Park purchased 10 females from Panhandle Red Angus and Redland Red Angus as a test group. This “test” turned into an immediate approval of the breed through calf vigor, survivability, milking ability of the cows, body condition scores, time- liness of breed back and pounds at weaning time. Saying everyone at LSF was more than excited about Red Angus is an understatement. LSF would go on to add genetics from Panhandle, Redland, Buffalo Creek Red Angus and Sodak Angus Ranch.

THE LEACHMAN CATTLE COMPANY YEARS LSF made the decision that to correctly evaluate the bull progeny produced

LUDVIGSON STOCK FARMS

Ludvigson Stock Farms began holding its own bull sales in 2007 at the Iowa Headquarters but for only 2 years. The 2007 sale featured the $18,000 LSF JBOB Expectation 6034S that was one of the high marbling bulls in the breed at the time and a bull to this day that is one of the high marbling bulls in the breed. The 2008 sale featured the $17,000 LSF Tank 7005T and the $16,000 LSF Venture 7062T. THE MONTANA MOVE In the fall of 2008, Ludvigson Stock Farms made the decision to move its bull sale west to Park City, Montana. We held bull sales in Park City from the spring of 2009 until the spring of 2013. Ludvigson Stock Farms continued to grow over those years and outgrew the development facility in Park City and moved in the summer of 2013 to the Weschenfelder Development Facility in Shepherd, Montana which provided the needed size for its growing expan- sion. The Weschenfelder facility is still today the home of Ludvigson Stock Farms development center for its bulls and replacement females along with its Montana sales center. A year after the bull sale was moved west, LSF moved part of the cowherd to Montana and began to run cows in Stillwater County in Montana. In 2010, the majority of the cowherd was moved to Montana with only the donor cowherd left in Iowa. The cowherd was run for 4 years just south of Colum- bus, Montana in the beautiful Yellowstone River valley. In the fall of 2013, LSF merged its Red Angus herd with Steve and Shelley Newberry’s Strawberry Ridge Reds herd to form LN Cattle Company. LSF was experiencing an accelerated demand for its genetics and the opportu- nity to merge allowed LSF to better service its growing customer base. LN Cattle Company purchased a ranch just south of Lewistown, Montana and is the home to the elite nucleus herd. LN Cattle Company supplies the ma- jority of genetics for Ludvigson Stock Farms. National Expansion LSF markets bulls throughout the U.S. and has one of the most geographi- cally diverse customer bases in the beef seedstock industry. Wanting to bet- ter serve this diverse base, LSF began developing regional sales to better serve locales throughout the U.S. The first regional sale was held in Dia-

mond, Missouri in March 2014. LSF added another sale in Mandan, North Dakota in February 2015 and another in Madras, Oregon in March 2016. LSF added additional regional sales in Buffalo, Texas and Visalia, California. Brand Name Ludvigson Stock Farms and the LSF prefix are well known throughout the Red Angus breed as well as the entire beef industry. The cattle bred by LSF are known for their low birth, growth, carcass and maternal characteristics while maintaining some of the most eye appealing Red Angus in the breed throughout the years. LSF has appeared on the top 10 list of seedstock oper- ations for both Beef Magazine and NCBA since 2015. This is the highest ranking for any Red Angus operation in the history of the breed. Technology Advances Ludvigson Stock Farms has always been on the cutting edge of technology. LSF was the very first beef customer for Trans Ova Genetics and has been an active customer since 1980. When beef carcass ultrasound was developed for commercial use, LSF was one of the first breeders to submit not only ul- trasound carcass images on bulls but also all replacement females. As DNA profiles were included in EPD calculations, LSF was one of the first breeders to submit samples on all bulls offered for sale. After those first samples then LSF began submitting samples on all bulls and replacement females. In 2015, LSF installed their own Growsafe Feed Efficiency systems so that every bull and 2/3s of the replacement females were individually feed tested for efficiency. LSF embraced the technologically advanced idea of cloning and “cloned” the first Red Angus bull, LSF Takeover 9943W in 2016. The next phase of technologically advanced ideas that LSF has developed and embraced is in the area of “Precision Breeding” through gene editing to turn Angus genet- ics red. LSF has always embraced technology in the early phases to provide cutting edge genetics to the breed and the beef industry. New Beginnings We are looking forward to writing the next chapter in our history and we hope many of you will be able to participate with us.
