selves, always: feel better when they can find something wrong with other people. Infidelity may publish- car-loads of books in trying to tear the Bible to pieces!, but it cannot explain a godly life. No man. can pray the Lord’s Prayer with his hands in his pockets. A stingy man is'all the time telling the world that ffisSgod is just like him.. The devil can’t kindle a fire hot enough to burn a man when God is with him. READY BIBLE OUTLINES p- ------------------------------------------4 Bible Salvation ■ Pastor Charles F. Reitzel, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, believes in taking oppor tunities by the forelock in spreading the Truth, so he prints the following on his envelopes: God thought it (Rom. 3:19-26; 1 Cor. 1:17-2:16). . Christ bought it (1 Cor. 6 :20; 1 Pet. 1:18, 19). The Grace of God brought it (Titus 2 : 11 ). • The Church taught it (Acts 8 :4; 26:22, 23). The Holy Spirit wrought it (1 Cor. 2:4, 5;1 Thess. 1:5),, The Gospel never fails to laud it (Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-4). That the angels might know its pro found and fascinating.; mystery, they sought it (1 Pet. 1:12). The Devil fought it (2 Cor. 4:3, 4). But by Grace, through faith, we poor sinners reached out and caught it (Eph. 2 : 8 ).
And now it will take a long eternity for us to; shout it (Eph. 2:7; Rev. 5:6-14). Then , why, lost sinner,..'will you go through life and all eternity without it? (Mark 8 :36, 37), And lastly, sinner, what say you about it? (Matt. 27:22), —o— Christ Is All And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giv ing thanks to God and the Father by him (Col. 3 :17) . 1. In the. P erfection of His atonement. ■ Blotting out the handwriting of ordi nances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross (Col. 2:14). 2. In the P eerlessness 'of His deity. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every, creature; For it pleased the Father that in him : should all fulness dwell (Col. 1:15,19). 3. In the P ower of His abiding presence. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whereunto I also labour, striving ac cording to his working, which worketh in me mightily (Col. 1 :27, 29). 4. In the P lenitude of His wisdom. In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col. 2:3). 5. In the P revalence of His authority. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them open ly, triumphing over them in it (Col. 2: 10, 15). 6. In the P otency of His indwelling Word. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and ad monishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Col. 3:16). 7. In the P rospect of His coming. When Christ, who is our life, shall ap pear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory (Col. 3:4). — K. L. S e a r c h - l i g h t s FROM THE WORD By Dr. G. Campbell Morgan (Permission Fleming H. Revell Co.)
“Knew ye not th a t. I must be in the things, of My Father?”! Luke 2:49. These are the first recorded words of our Lord. I resolutely!adopt the second marginal reading of the Revised—which is direct translation from the Greek. They were 'spoken when He was twelve years of age,.being then, as Luke so,beautifully describes Him, “the boy Jesus,” It has often been pointed out that they are very significant as giving the key to the whole of His life and work. The compelling force, the “must” behind all His doing and teaching, was ever the same, the things of H is. Father. He lived and wrought only to do the will of God. There ; is, however, another value in them. Because He was “the boy Jesus,” a most real and true Boy, we gather from these words not only the, inherent grace and truth of His character, but also how careful had been His training from baby hood. From the annunciation to Mary, and the revelation to Joseph which Mat thew records, those two people in a holy fellowship had •shared the secret as to that ,wonderful Child. With what - rev erent awe and tender solicitude, they must have watched His; growth and develop ment! And again, because He was a real human Child, they were responsible for all His earliest instruction in “the things of God.” The result is seen in. this sim ple, natural, unaffected word, spoken, be it noticed, to both of them: “Knew ye not that I must be in the things of My Father?”. , The difference between this Boy and our children is admitted; but let us not forget His identity with them. If we remember, vye shall ever seek to train them to the same complete conception of life. It is a great thing when, as the re sult of our training and example, our children relate all their lives to God by its “must” of complete surrender. SENTENCE SERMONS S. ----------------------------------- --------- * The man who. is ■ small and mean in money matters with his wife, always has a hard time in convincing her that he is religious. ' The Good Shepherd never drives his sheep to pasture.' Trying to be religious two hours a week is one of the hardest ways to get to heaven anybody ever undertook. People who worry, forget that God is still great enough to keep an eye on everything, from an atom to a planet. People who are not quite right them
Whose soul have I helped today? Whose heart have I tried to cheer? In the lonely hour, ■with its flagging power, Have I dried one falling tear? Have I spoken one helpful word In the woe of another’s strife? Tried one to win from a path of ■ sin, • Or lead to a higher life?
