Gathering as a community is also a favorite pastime of Rochester residents. Since 1983, each year Rochesterfest has been held to promote and celebrate “all things Rochester.” This weeklong celebration includes family-friendly entertainment and activities, most of which take place at Soldiers Memorial Field Park, as well as other locations throughout the community. Of course, no summer in Rochester would be complete without a visit to the Olmstead County Fair. Fairgoers can enjoy livestock exhibits, fantastic food and entertainment. For those looking for to learn more about animals native to Minnesota, Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo, located about 4.5 miles west of Rochester and north of the city of Byron, features 30 species of animals, including bison, eagles, black bear, otter, and more, as well as over 63 acres of land for hiking, picnicking, and camping. During the winter months, ski outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the vast ski trails at Chester Woods Park and Oxbow Park. Chester Woods Park is home to 12 miles of groomed ski trails featuring both classic and free-style skiing for moderately experienced skiers. Oxbow Park features two miles of groomed trails and also has rental skis and snowshoes available for rent.

Rochester is surrounded by delightful communities teeming with business and entertainment opportunities. Located a mere 12 miles from Rochester, Stewartville is charming town that celebrates its history as a prairie village. Founded in 1857, today Stewartville boasts a family-oriented community teeming opportunities aplenty – from a growing business district to new housing developments to a successful school district.

Nearby, the City of Byron also provides a small town atmosphere while also embracing well-planned development opportunities for city residents and businesses alike. And with a population of 3,796, nearby Zumbrota is a favorite among regional residents thanks in part to its revered Zumbrota Covered Bridge, the last functioning covered bridge in Minnesota. This family-oriented community offers an idyllic environment in which to work and play.
