Introduction to Multibeam Data Processing

Introduction to Sub Bottom Survey

Once a multibeam survey has been completed offshore, the hard work of pro- cessing begins. Generally, multibeam data processing takes 2-3 times longer than the acquisition, and quite often the acquisition software is not used to do the processing. This course introduces the processing softwares Fledermaus, Midwater and Qimera, and Hypack, as well as the mapping and analytics plat- form ArcGis. Users will learn to collect raw data from the survey vessel in the correct format and prepare it for processing, process raw data to the level spec- ified in the survey brief, and use the processed data to prepare publication-stan- dard maps. Upon completion of the course, users will have full control over their survey data. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST, and their collaborators from academia and industry, who would like to have full control over their survey data. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

Due to a growing need for sub bottom profiling at KAUST, CMR is increasing its equipment capabilities. This course aims to get staff/students up to speed with the next generation of sub bottom equipment and software. Participants will be introduced to various sub bottom acquisition software, and learn how to correctly set up and safely operate towed and vessel mount sub bottom profilers. In ad- dition, the seminar will present processing software and discuss how to prepare data for analysis. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST, and their collaborators from academia and industry, who need to collect high quality sub bottom profiling data.
