OPTICAL MICROSCOPY

Leica CM 3050 Cryostat Training

Cell culture is the procedure in which cells are grown and proliferate under controlled conditions. It is a widely used technique that allows for the study of human metabolism and physiology that is not readily possible in vivo. This cell culture course will cover: sterile media preparation; passaging of suspension and adherent cell lines; cryopreservation and resuspension of cell stocks; cell separation and isolation using density centrifugation techniques; and immunoflu- orescent staining protocol.

The Leica CM3050S Cryostat is a system for maintaining objects at cryogenic temperatures. It is suitable for the demanding needs of cryosectioning in bio- medical and neuroscience research. The Leica cryostat features an electronic specimen feed which gives the user a great advantage when absolute precision is a high priority. Section thickness can range from 0.5 to 300 microns, and maxi- mum specimen size is 55 x 70 mm.
