Anion Analysis by Ion Chromatography

The TOC/TN Analyzer uses the combustion catalytic oxidation technique with non-dispersive infrared detector (NDIR) to measure Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Total Inorganic Carbon (TIC), Total Carbon (TC), and Total Nitrogen (TN) with chemiluminescence detection in fresh waters, drinking water, seawater, treated water, and brine water in the range of 4 μg/L to 30,000 mg/L. Advanced training is available on solid samples if needed. This course introduces the gen- eral fundamental theory and technique, including a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of this method and general guidance for its application. It trains users on sample preparation, instrument and software usage, data gathering, and carbon and nitrogen concentration determination. Following this course, us- ers are expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform basic data analysis. Ion chromatography (IC) is the separation and quantitative analysis of anions and cations in an aqueous solution using the ion exchange method of liquid chromatography (LC). Our system is set up for anion analysis. The course will cover the basic theory of IC, major components of the instrument, software familiarization, method building, standard preparation, sample analysis, and data processing. After successful completion of this course, users are expected to operate the instrument safely and independently.
