Moisture Determination by Karl Fischer Titration

Karl Fischer is a classic titration method that uses coulometric titration to deter- mine trace amounts of water (1 ppm to 5% level) in liquid samples. This train- ing will provide a brief introduction to the theory and instrument operation with hands-on practice. General guidance of sample introduction, experiment setup, and software familiarization will be discussed. Following this course, users are expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform sam- ple analysis. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST, and their collaborators from academia and industry. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

The Auto-titrator uses electrochemical detection, rather than dyes, to identify the endpoint of a titration. Different types of electrodes are used, and they work by detecting the voltage change resulting from the chemical reaction at the point where all of the analyte is consumed by the titrant. This course will cover the principles of auto-titration, instrument component and software, reagent prepara- tion, and sample analysis. After successful completion of this course, users are expected to operate the instrument safely and independently.
