UV-Vis Absorption Spectroscopy Training PHYSICAL CHARACTERIZATION

UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy provides electronic transition of the molecules of interest (solid, powder, liquid). The technique is also used to understand the band gap of molecules. The spectral range is from 190-900 nm. This course introduces the basic operation of the Thermo Evolution 600 UV-Vis spectrometer. Participants will learn how to use the instruments for powder/liq- uid samples for UV-Vis absorption measurements, and acquire and analyze the resulting data. Topics covered include: how to use badger to book/enable/disable UV-Vis absorption spectrometer; sample preparation; handling of instruments; and system calibration using VisionPro software. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST who want to analyze samples to understand their electronic transitions. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

• Laboratory Safety Training • Hazardous Waste Training • Emergency Incident Preparedness Training MAXIMUM PARTICIPANTS 5 DURATION 1 hour training 30 minutes practice and evaluation FREQUENCY Monthly
