Optotherm Infrared Microscope Training

LaVision’s FlowMaster Micro-PIV system is designed to measure flow fields on microscopic scales using dedicated microscopic imaging components. In Micro-PIV, the light sheet applied in planar PIV applications is replaced by a volume illumination of the flow, and the depth of field is determined by the numerical aperture of the objective lens of the microscope. For flow seeding, fluorescent particles are used to remove the strong background light from the nearby surfaces. The fluorescent light is red-shifted from the excitation light and separated using a filter cube. Systems supports 2D-PIV, Stereo-PIV and To- mo-PIV measurements. This course offers an introduction to the micro PIV system. Participants will learn the standard operation and safety procedures to run the LaVision Micro PIV system. Basic introduction to the post processing image program will also be provided. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST who are interested in understanding the behavior of fluids in confined spaces. The Micro radiometric thermal imaging microscope measures and displays the temperature distribution over the surface of small devices. This enables quick detection of hot spots and thermal gradients which may indicate a defect site and frequently lead to decreased efficiency and early failure. This course trains users on the Micro radiometric thermal imaging microscope. Participants will learn about image resolution based on the infrared wavelength, and the standard procedure to operate the Optotherm system. Basic software training and efficient use of the Peltier heater will also be covered. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST who would like to examine heat generation and thermal dissipation in localized areas that induce temperature stresses which can affect device reliability and performance.
