Job Scheduling on KSL HPC Systems
This course teaches participants to use the Ibex cluster for science and discov- ery. In this session, an overview of the hardware and software of Ibex will be giv- en, followed by a step-by-step introduction on how to use it effectively. Additional information about documentation and support will also be presented. The event is followed by the Ibex clinic in the afternoon where users can interact with the experts to discuss various ongoing challenges or issues in the Ibex cluster and try to resolve them, as well as engage in collaborative projects.
Scheduler is an essential part of a supercomputer, which enables sharing of the computational resources of that machine. It is important that users are aware of how scheduler works and how to interact with it to maximize efficiency from the allocated resources. After attending this training, users will: • Be familiar with SLURM – the job scheduler on Shaheen and Ibex • Learn how to query available resources, submit and monitor job them, track usage and investigate common errors • Learn ways to create advanced workflows • Learn best practices when using SLURM on Shaheen and Ibex • Learn how to efficiently request allocations for GPUs and Burst Buffer PARTICIPANT PROFILE All KAUST students, researchers, and faculty who either use or plan to use Sha- heen and/or Ibex should attend this tutorial. PREREQUISITES MAXIMUM PARTICIPANTS 40 DURATION 2 hours
PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for new Ibex users. However, it can also be of interest to those who are looking to learn about newer hardware and software capabilities of the cluster. Basic knowledge of Linux command line is required.
