SolidWorks for Beginners

Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing is a system for defining and commu- nicating engineering tolerances. Understanding the importance of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is critical in design work. This course introduces the use of geometrical tolerancing on engineering drawings. Users will learn to recognize appropriate specifications and common mistakes, how to calculate limits & fits, and how to interpret geometrical tolerances. ISO standards are adhered to. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This seminar is for students, researchers, scientists, and engineers who want to design components, assemblies, experimental apparatuses, or tools. SolidWorks is a 3D CAD modeling software used by the Workshops Core Lab. Attendees will learn the concepts of 3D modeling, and the skills necessary to fully utilize the SolidWorks interface. Topics covered include: 3D modeling & its benefits versus traditional 2D drawing; the SolidWorks user interface; sketching in SolidWorks; creating drawings from solid models to international standards; techniques used in 3D modeling; and assembly modeling and management. The course is comprised of four three-hour sessions. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This seminar is for students, researchers, scientists, and engineers who want to design using the SolidWorks modeling platform. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account
