Manufacturability at KAUST Workshops

Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is the fastest growing technology and an essential tool for Research & Development (R&D). AM is used mostly for prototyping and concept realization, as well as for the actual products to reduce costs and time consumption. This course gives an overview of 3D printing, its applications, and its limitations. Participants will learn to design for 3D printing, using the available software and printers in the Workshop and Prototyping Core Labs (Fortus 400mc, Dimensions 1200bst, MakerBot Z18, Ultimaker Extended2+, Formlabs Form 2, XYZ Davinci 3 in 1). Model layers, support layers, break away and dissolved support materials, and pre and post printing forethoughts will be covered. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students, researchers, scientists, engineers, and community members who want to use the 3D printers available in the Work- shops Core Lab and Prototyping Core Lab. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

The Manufacturability course is designed to inform users about the fabrication and machination capabilities of the Workshops Core Lab. Participants will be introduced to the RFS system, and understand the information necessary to provide in order for requests to be effectively processed. They will be taken on a tour of the Workshops, and learn what materials and machining techniques are available. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for anyone who is likely to use the workshops in any way, whether raising an RFS for their own project, or on someone else’s behalf.
