micrOTOF Benchtop Mass Spectrometer

The micro Time-of-Flight (TOF)-MS instrument is a high resolution (10,000) Mass spectrometer. It is capable of measuring accurate masses of a variety of compounds from small (standard mass range: 50-3000 amu) to large mole- cules (extended mass range: 3000-20000 amu). The micrOTOF Benchtop Mass Spectrometer is the perfect choice for straight-forward formula determination of unknown compounds. This course introduces the general theory of mass spec- trometry measurement, including a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses and general guidance for its application. This training also includes discussions on sample preparation, instrument configuration, method development princi- ples, and software usage. Following this course, the user is expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform basic data analysis. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST, and their collaborators from academia and industry. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

The TSQ Altis is a triple stage quadrupole Mass Spectrometer that deter-mines the m/z of small molecules. It is very sensitive for quantitative analysis in complex sample matrices. The instrument is coupled with ultra-high-perfor-mance-chromatography. This course introduces the general theory about chem-ical separation and mass spectrometry detection, including a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of this method and general guidance for its applica-tions. This training also includes discussions on sample preparation, instrument configuration, method development principles, and software usage. Following this course, the user is expected to be able to independently operate the instru-ment and perform basic data analysis.
