High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with Photodiode Array Detection (PDA) & Hybrid LTQ Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer

The LTQ Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer can reach an ultra-high resolution (> 100,000) with reliable mass accuracy (<5 ppm mass error). It is the perfect choice for straight-forward formula determination of unknown compounds. The combination of the Orbitrap detector with an external mass analyzer such as a linear ion trap enables multiple levels of fragmentation (MSn) for the structural elucidation of analytes. This instrument is coupled with high-performance-liq- uid-chromatography (HPLC) for separation and quantitative analysis in complex sample matrices. This course introduces the general theory of mass spectrom- etry detection, including a discussion of its strengths and weaknesses and general guidance for its application. This training also includes discussions on sample preparation, instrument configuration, method development principles, and software usage. Following this course, the user is expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform basic data analysis.
