Gas Chromatograph-Flame Ionization Detector Analysis of Small Organic Molecules

The gas chromatograph is coupled with an Electron Capture Detector-Dual Flame Photometric Detector. This is particularly useful for the separation and quantification of halogens, Sulfur and Phosphorus containing organic volatile compounds, and Sulfur and Phosphorus containing organic semi volatile com- pounds. This course introduces the general theory of chemical separation and column choices, including a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of this method and general guidance for its application. This training also includes dis- cussions on sample preparation, instrument configuration, method development principles and software usage. Following this course, the user is expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform basic data analysis. PARTICIPANT PROFILE This course is intended for students and research professionals from KAUST, and their collaborators from academia and industry. PREREQUISITES • Active Badger account

Gas Chromatograph with Flame Ionization Detector is a conventional organic analysis technique for volatile and semi volatile compounds, especially for hydro- carbons. This course introduces the general fundamental theory and technique, including a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of this method and general guidance for its application. It trains users on instrument configurations, software usage, and principles of method development. Following this course, the user is expected to be able to independently operate the instrument and perform basic data analysis.
