He has recently completed a study in psychology at the Free University o f Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He has been a pastor, and he has had serious ill ness and suffering. These factors combine to make this book a real contribution to con servative Christian psychology. The author traces the development o f pastoral theology historically. He gives the result o f his own question naire research in relation to present day pastoral psychology. He gives an analysis o f the place o f counselling in the pastorate, and suggestions for effective pastoral psychology. Not the least valuable feature o f the book is its constant reference to and evaluation o f other works in this same line. There is a bibliography of 23 pages. “We need to have the aid o f psy chology for an effective ministry,” says Dr. Goulooze, “ but it must be a psychology that will recognize the place o f the Bible as God’s revelation and the place o f Christianity as God’s work o f redemption.” This work is recommended for in spiration to those who enjoy the pul pit but not “ the work o f the min istry” and for instruction to those who would be serious students of pastoral psychology. 266 pages, Baker Book House, Grand Rapids, Mich.
