curs without warning. There is also the possibility of being in a place where no one knows the way of salvation at the time when this information is sought. There are also times when the individual is too sick to think and unable to go to the house of God or to find a servant of God. There are cases also where neglect of salvation brings hardness of heart and an indifferent spirit. “ Come now” saith the Lord. There is a tendency in the human heart to seek for flaws in others while being blind to one’s own faults. This is human nature. It is much easier to see the nose on the other person than to see one’s own nose. This applies spirit ually as well as physically. Our Lord recognized this situation and made some very pointed remarks about it in our lesson. We are urged to see that our own house is clean before criticizing oth ers. We should have our own disposition under the influence of the Holy Spirit before finding fault with the lives and actions of others. We Are Not to Judge Others Matt. 7:1 There is a difference between judging and stating facts. If you see two dogs in the street, one lying dead and the other living, you are not judging the dogs if you say that one is dead and the other is alive. If you see a black man and a white man, you are not judging if you say one is black and one is white. If you see two apples, you are not judging if you say one is rotten and the other is good. Judging is drawing conclusions from certain evidences and this we are not to do. The man stagger ing on the street may be sick or have defective vision and may not be drunk. The facts should be ascertained. We Are Not to Magnify the Faults We shall never find a perfect person except the Man Christ Jesus. Everyone has faults and some folks have faults that are especially offensive to us. If the truth were known, our faults, which may be a different kind, are as offensive to them. We should approach people with the full knowledge that though we find faults in them, we will love them nevertheless and work with them heartily. Let us not expect to correct the faults in everyone and make them live as we think they should. God did not tell us to be correctors of the saints. That is His work. We Are Not to Waste Our Ministry Matt. 7:6 Pearls are lovely for queens but worthless to pigs. We cannot expect to receive the appreciation of those to whom we give things that they cannot T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S October 15, 1950 "AS YE WOULD . . . October 8, 1950 "THY SINS BE FORGIVEN" Mark 2:1-12; Matt. 18:23-35 Forgiveness is a present blessing from God. Only God can forgive sins that are committed against Him. Men can only forgive sins that are committed against them. It must be a direct transaction between the one who is offended and the one who commits the offense. There are five kinds of forgiveness in the Scrip ture: judicial, paternal, fraternal, social, and ecclesiastical. The forgiveness in this passage is judicial—from the Judge. There Are Sins to Be Forgiven Eccl. 7:20 No one is without sin. Everybody is guilty of it. There are sins of omission, sins of commission, sins of ignorance, and sins of presumption. There are sins in the holy things such as pride of doing well. There are sins which we cause others to commit. No person is aware of all of his sins of every kind. We must come to God as those who have utterly failed and receive direct from Him forgiveness, based on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have forgiveness only through His blood. There Is One Who Forgives Mark 2:10 The Saviour forgives and so does God the Father. The Holy Spirit forgets the sins of those who accept Jesus Christ. No one has been appointed by God to take His place in the removal of sins from the guilty soul. God permits the preachers and His messengers to give the story of forgiveness just as the mes senger carries the pardon from the gov ernor to the criminal. The governor, however, must issue the pardon. No priest who loves his tobacco, prize fights, liquor, and other carnal practices is God’s messenger to carry His forgive ness. Forgiveness Must Be Obtained in This Life Acts 26:18 We never read of any forgiveness in the next life. Christ has power “ on earth to forgive sins.” If the sinner dies in his sins, there is no provision or remedy available after death. Masses for the dead are only a money-making scheme of the apostate Roman church. There is no evidence anywhere of any kind that any dead person ever did re ceive forgiveness nor reduction in the sentence. This practice is a fraud. Sal vation must be obtained before death only through faith in Christ Jesus, the living Lord. Forgiveness Should Be Obtained Now Isa. 1:18 It is most dangerous to neglect get ting to the Saviour for forgiveness. Death comes suddenly in many cases. Accidents abound everywhere. Fearful situations arise quickly and death oc
