The Critic A little seed lay on the ground, And soon began to sprout. “ Now which o f all the flowers around,” It mused, “ shall I come out? The violet is all very well, But not a flower I’d choose; Nor yet the Canterbury bell— I never cared for blues.” And so it criticized each flower, This supercilious seed, Until it woke one summer hour, And found itself— A WEED ! —Selected The trouble with a lot o f us is we each want to be human, but we’re expectin’ everybody else to be perfect. —Prophecy Monthly Take Time Out How shortsighted many people are in not taking time for the strengthen ing o f their spiritual life, is illus trated by this little gem: “ A sweating wood chopper who wasn’t doing too well was urged to stop and sharpen his ax. He snorted: ‘It’s tough enough now getting this job done without taking time out to grind an ax.’ ” —Moody Church News No sin is small. It is against an infinite God, and may have conse quences immeasurable. No grain o f sand is small in the mechanism of a watch. —Taylor God Versus Satan Satan says: If you live a moral life, be honest, pay your debts, prac tice the Golden Rule and do the best you can, you are sure to reach heaven. God says: Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3. Satan says: Don’t be in any hurry about becoming a Christian, there is plenty o f time. God says: Boast not thyself o f to morrow ; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Prov. 27:1. —Listen
Prayer Is Power The prayers o f holy men and women can do more than all the ar mies and navies of the nation! Prayer-craft is greater than aircraft! “ Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord o f hosts” (Zech. 4 :6 ). We can so pray the power o f God upon our fellows that their hearts shall become inclined to the truth of God which we are proclaiming. More and more do I see the vital necessity and boundless potentiality o f prayer in the power o f the Holy Spirit. Get an army o f holy men and women prosecuting a desperately earnest prayer-warfare against the evils o f our nation, and America and Britain will be saved! Get the church to its knees, and revival is here! Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons — but they are helpless against our prayers! Fellow Christians who love the cause of Christ— to prayer! to prayer! The times are calling us to it. We must press on. Ours is a message that purifies and sanctifies and simplifies and unifies and glorifies human life, and that magnifies the grace o f God which bringeth salvation. Forward— on our knees, and in the Spirit’s might! —Sidlow Baxter
