Cougars prepare for NCJHL playoff season

It was the kind of white-knuckle win for the Vankleek Hill Cougars that brought the hometown fans to their feet cheering. With 11 seconds left on the clock in third period, the Cougars scored a tie-breaking goal against the Vikings, that clinched Sat- urday night’s home game for the Vankleek Hill Club and earned fourth-place overall in the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) standings, for the 2016-2017 regular season play schedule. With a game record of 17 wins, 14 losses and one tie out of 32 regular session games, the Cougars close on the heels of third-place club, the North Dundas Rockets, with their 18 and 14 game record. The Papineauville Vikings are second in the regular seasonwith 20 and 12 while the Embrun Panthers lead the pack in first place overall with 22 wins, eight losses and two ties. Goal assists came from the two Doyons, Nikolas Ayotte, Hugo Blanchard, Nicolas Castonguay, Samuel Fournier, and Riley Sauvé. Brennan Nadeau guarded the Cougars’ net. Bandit goals came from Alexis Diotte and Karl Diotte, with assists from Nicholas Bedard, Karl Diotte, Samuel Gaudet, and Andrew Oliviera. both the Vikings and their hosts scoring in first period with the Cougars finishing with a one-point lead. The Vikings scored the sole two goals of second period to take over the lead. The Cougars then took the game back in third, including the last-second winning goal. Scoring for Vankleek Hill were Anaick Besner, Nicholas Castonguay, Charles Doyon, Marc-Antoine Doyon, andMaxime Emond. Goal assists came Emond, Nikolas Ayotte, Ronnie Boots, Charles Doyon, Sam- uel Fournier, Kyle Giroux, and Riley Sauvé. Anthony Vassall warded the Cougars’ goal. Goals for the Vikings came fromFrançois Larose, Danny Plourde-Grenon, Maxime Roussel, and Maxime Tremblay with as- sists by Mathieu Des Ruisseaux, Jacob Os- borne, Vincent Tardif-Richard, and Jérémie Trudeau. Marc-Olivier Bastien guarded the Vikings’ net.

Carleton Place Canadians dominate the Hawks

The Carleton Place Canadians domi- nated the Hawkesbury Hawks, winning the game 4-1.The first period was in the Hawks’ favour but things started to fall apart in the second period. Four minutes into the fist period and Oliver Lester, of the Hawks, managed to score in the Canadians’ net, giving the Hawks a good chance at winning the game.
