March 27, 1949 JESUS AMONG OTHER RACES Mark 7:24-37

ISTHESPIRIT OFCHRISTIAN IOVE TIRED?

Pointers on the Lesson The lesson under consideration indi cates that the compassion of Christ has no racial limits. He responds to human need. Even when He was resting from His usual busy life, He had time to min ister to those who appealed to Him for a healing touch. The Christ who “ could not be hid” during His life on earth is still accessible to all who come to Him for help. Two instances of the Sav iour’s healing ministry are the subjects of this week’s study. They afford pre cious lessons for our meditation. Parents Should Pray for The mother in this passage is deeply sorrowful. Her daughter is demon-pos sessed. There was nothing she could do to help her. But she knew the Lord had power to cast out the demon. The mother implored Christ to rid her daugh ter of the demon; He did. May all parents be instructed by this mother’s example. Parents are unable to give their children new hearts. They may not be able to give their children a fine education, or the best clothes, or many other material things. But par ents can and should pray for their chil dren. That is most important, and too often neglected. Parents Should Pray Persistently for Their Children (Mark 7:27-30) This mother refused to be discouraged when her plea seemed to be rejected. She was not of the house of Israel; the blessings were first promised to Israel. In a particular sense they were the children of God. All others were / ‘dogs.” But the afflicted mother said, “Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs” (28). The mother needed only a crumb of bless ing! The Lord honored her faith. Their Children (Mark 7:25, 26)

The Biggest Business in the World (Mark 7:31-37)

Several friends of a deaf and mute man brought him into the presence of Jesus to be healed. These friends could do nothing for the man themselves. But they knew One who could heal him. They decided to bring him to that One. What they did is a vivid illustration of the most worth-while service that any one can render to a fellow man: they brought him into the presence of Jesus. He is the only One who can heal the spiritual disease of mankind. God gives to Christians the privilege and duty of leading men into His presence that their need may be met. Helps for the Children Jesus’ Kindness to Foreigners Luke 7:1-10; Mark 7:24-37 Memory Verse: “As we have . . . oppor tunity, let us do good unto all men” (Gal. 6:10). One day as God’s Son was in Caper naum, an officer of the Roman army, a centurion, sent the elders of the Jews to ask Jesus to come and heal his serv ant who was dying. The Jews told Jesus that the centurion desired His help be cause he loved the Jews and had built them a synagogue. When the Lord came near to the centurion’s house, the cen turion sent friends to Him saying, “ Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: Wherefore, neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say a wordy and my servant shall be healed.” The Lord Jesus said that He had not found greater faith than this in all Israel. When the Jews returned to the centurion’s home, they found that the servant had been completely healed! On a journey through Phoenicia, the Lord again showed His love for those who were not of His own race. As Jesus was in a house, a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit came and fell before Him to ask that He would heal her daughter. Jesus told her that He must care for the needs of His own people first, but her answer was so wise and so filled with faith that He told her to gq home and find her daughter healed! Again, a man who was deaf and could not speak plainly was brought to Jesus for healing. Jesus took the man “aside from the multitude,' and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven . . . saith unto him . . . Be opened.” Imme diately the man was able to hear and to speak plainly! The Son of God had not come to earth to save only His own race"; He came to offer salvation to all. Those who love Him will freely love and serve people of every race because His divine love is dwelling within their hearts. T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S

“ / know many refugees ,” writes our representative in France, “ who are praying again and again that the spirit of Christian love will not get tired in America.” We are faced with a constant cry for help from the thousands of Hebrew Christians in Europe, who are still suffering from ex treme exhaustion and distress as the aftermath of an unprecedented calamity. THE FRIENDS OF ISRAEL MISSIONARY AND RELIEF SO CIETY, INC., continues to serve in the Lord’s name, supplying food for the hungry, clothing for the ill-clad, and the Word of Com fort and life to the despondent. God forbid that the spirit of Christian love should ever become tired. This hate-ridden and dis- Iressed world wouid then become totally unlivable for our Lord’s “ little ones.” Help us to keep aloft the torch of His light and love in places of distress. Your prayerful fellow ship and cooperation for this great Christian service and testi mony to the Children of Israel is warmly invited.
