The people of New Jersey have not been immune to the opioid epidemic that has caused terrible loss and hardship to those suffering from opioid abuse. Like others across the country, care providers and government agencies hoping to help those most in need are struggling to nd a solution to the problem. In light of the growing problem, the federal government and New Jersey leaders have now made it clear that addressing substance abuse is a top priority, with new funding aimed at curbing opioid abuse. NEW FUNDING On International Overdose Awareness Day, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced the Centers for Disease Control had awarded two state departments a total of $7.6 million to ght the opioid epidemic. The New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) received a $727,688 competitive grant, while the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) received approximately $6.9 million to target prescription and opioid misuse.
