talk about the factors necessary to make a lasting recovery from addiction, they talk about a person’s commitment, trust in the process, and willingness to open up about their struggles. But they also know that without a supportive and positive environment around them, even the most earnest of clients would struggle with their sobriety. That’s why Real House launched a halfway house program to help remove obstacles and create a safe space in which recovery can flourish.
Supportive environment Real House’s halfway house program seeks to further their holistic treatment ideology by providing clients with everything they need to succeed in their recovery. The program currently includes two homes that can house up to 36 clients, with a new men’s home opening soon. Clients can stay at the homes for up to nine months, and staff will work with them to secure permanent housing and other services throughout their time in the program. The first home, located in downtown Newark, NJ, is a three-story structure built in 1910 and still maintains some of its old-world charm. Its proximity to public transportation, cultural centers, and other resources makes it the perfect fit for clients who may be looking for work or are just trying to re-acclimate to a life of sobriety. A second home is located in the suburban community of Bloomfield, NJ, and is nestled among a residential neighborhood close to a university, library, shopping, etc. Both homes feature comfortable living spaces and amenities to remove daily challenges and make clients feel at home as they progress in their recovery process. While Real House staff pride
themselves on their top notch facilities, they know that it is their treatment programming that will ultimately make the difference. “All of the clients in our halfway houses are required to attend outpatient treatment,” says Noah Sharif, senior clinical counselor at Real House. “They receive substance abuse treatment, if needed, and counseling to address a number of other mental and behavioral concerns that may have led to their initial troubles with law enforcement.”
